YOUR BRAND SHOULD BE RECOGNIZABLE AND PROTECTED AS WELL.

Last week, I made a repost of Two brands, similar product packages but different brands and the owner of the Post captioned it-
"When does product packaging cross the line from inspiration to infringement!"

This got me thinking more about small business owners who display their products with or even without an identity intentionally. Some create great products but may not be equally intentional about owning their Brands' identity. And I'm about this as a task.

Their Brand Name, Logo, Packaging, Colors, Typography and their distinctive visual presence matters a whole lot. I try as much as I can to convince the very small business owners around me as per getting it right from the start.

When all of these details consistently represent your product and your brand promise, customers have a clearer way to recognize who the original is.

Branding may not stop someone from copying you but a strong and distinctive identity can Make your business easily recognized, remembered and distinguished.

While you focus on the quality of the content inside the package, focus on the brand's identity.

Think about what your customers see, feels and are used to with your brand

Don't package your product only, package your IDENTITY as well.
BRAND CONFUSION - RECOGNITION -OWNERSHIP

Make your brand difficult to confuse. Own it!

LITTLE THINGS THAT MATTERS IN BRAND DESIGN DECISIONS -

TYPOGRAPHY

While you prefer to use AI to create your brand designs, consider core elements - Your Font choices.

Your brand isn't about "Use this type of font, I like it".

Your brand isn't only about the Logo.

Sometimes, the little decisions carry the biggest perception.

The typeface you choice.
The way your product is presented.
The colours you combine.
The spacing, hierarchy and details.

A BOLD typeface communicates Confidence.
An Elegant or Soft script can create a personal feel.
A Modern or san-serif font can communicate cleanliness, reliability and simplicity.
A Luxury font communicates Premium or Exclusivity.

None of these should be made simply because "I like this font"

Rather ask-
"Does this design decision communicate what I want my customers to feel about my brand?"

Great Branding is intentional.

What would you like to change about your Brand's Typography?

"I like RED. Use RED & BLACK" šŸ˜Ž

Dear brand owner that may not fit into your brand.

How would you want your customers to feel when they get attracted to or want to use your product ?
- satisfied
- restored
- excited
- healed
- refreshed
- nourished
- glowing
- premium (odogwu), etc.

Think or rethink it again, HOW DO I WANT MY CUSTOMERS TO FEEL?

Ensure your brand colour communicates that feeling before they even pick up your product.

Do not pick colours because you like them, pick a colour for your brand because you want them to feel like what your brand promise.

That is exactly how colour is brand decision not your personal decision or a particular design choice.

"If your products are displayed virtually..."
..then your packaging is no longer sitting on a shelf.
It has become your salesperson. Yes, PACKAGING IS YOUR INSTANT SALESPERSON.

Most customers will first discover your product on:
Facebook/ Instagram/ WhatsApp Status/ An online store/ A delivery app

They can't touch it.
They can't smell it.
They can't taste it.
They can only judge what they see.
That's why your packaging shouldn't just look good on a physical shelf.
It should be designed to perform on a phone screen.

Questions to Ask yourself:
āœ”ļø Can someone recognize my product in less than 3 seconds?
āœ”ļø Is my brand name easy to read on a mobile screen?
āœ”ļø Does my packaging stand out among dozens of competing posts?
āœ”ļø Would I stop scrolling if this appeared in my feed?

Your product deserves more than a plain photo against a white wall.
It deserves an identity that makes people pause.....before they even think about buying.

Because in today's digital world, your packaging isn't just packaging.
It's your first impression.
Your advertisement.
Your silent salesperson.
So before posting your next product...
Create an identity around it.
That's what makes people remember your brand.

I'd love to know...
When you advertise your products online, would you prefer to post:
A. The product only
B. The product with a branded design

Drop A or B in the comments. Let's figure it out.

Brand Recognition Matters

In a crowded market, being good isn't always enough. Being recognizable matters.

When customers can quickly identify your product, remember your name, and associate your packaging with quality, you’re no longer just another option on the shelf.

Build a brand people can recognize before they even read the caption.

Because the goal isn't only to be chosen once.
It’s to be remembered and chosen again.

The Problem With Posting Unbranded Food Products Online -

You made it, YES.
You packaged it in a container/pouch, YES.
You took the picture, YES.
You posted it, YES.

All Good šŸ‘ But can anyone tell that it belongs to YOU?

For instance, for food businesses, posting beautiful products without strong branding can quietly cost you more than you realize.

1. Your product can be remembered without your business.
People may love what they see but forget who made it. Every post should build recognition.

2. Your images can travel without your name.
When your product photos have no clear brand identity, they can be downloaded, reposted or shared — and your business may disappear from the picture entirely.

3. You're leaving money on the table.
Packaging isn't just about making food look nice. Presentation can change how customers perceive value — and how confidently you can price your product.

4. You become easier to overlook.
When everyone is posting pastries and snacks, ā€œmine is deliciousā€ isn't enough. Your presentation should make people stop and recognize you.

5. You're missing free opportunities to build brand recognition.
Every product photo, package, label and delivery is another chance to put your business name in front of potential customers.

Your product may already be good enough.

But does your presentation make people see its value?

Don't just post what you make.

Brand it. Protect its identity. Package its value. Price it with confidence.

And honestly, this is where good product presentation becomes a business strategy, not just a design decision.

Note - We don't sell cookies - it's for demonstration purposes. This concept simply illustrates how intentional branding and packaging can reposition a product and communicate greater value.

People see šŸ‘€ before they believe that your brand can deliver.

Think about the last time you picked up a product you had never bought before.
You probably didn’t know the founder.
You hadn’t tasted it.

Nobody was there to convince you.
But something about the packaging made you stop.

That is the power of packaging.
Your packaging is often the first conversation your product has with a potential customer.
Before they experience what is inside, they are already asking:

Does this look trustworthy?
Does this look like it is worth my money?
Is this product actually for me?
Does this brand understand what it is doing?

And sometimes, your product may be excellent—but your packaging isn't communicating that excellence.
That’s why packaging design should be more than ā€œmake it beautiful.ā€
It should help your product position itself, communicate value and compete for attention.

So let me ask you:
If your product were placed on a shelf today, beside 20 competitors… would your packaging make someone stop and look?

Tell me honestly in the comments: YES, NO, or I’M NOT SURE. šŸ‘‡šŸ½

Your brand's visuals count.

People Judge Your Brand Before They Buy-

Your customer may never tell you that your packaging influenced their decision.

But they noticed it.

Before they taste your cookies, use your skincare, wear your fashion item or try your product, they see:

Your colours.
Your packaging.
Your photography.
Your typography.
Your overall presentation.
And within seconds, they begin forming an opinion about your brand.

The question isn't only:
"Is my product good?"
Ask:
"Does my presentation make people believe my product is good?"

Because great products deserve great presentation.

What do you think your current packaging
communicates about your business? Think it, Say it-
