I used to read novels as a child. This really improved my written English as well as my spoken English.
I was born in Germany in January of 1976. In 1981 my father brought us to Nigeria. I was 5 years old. My first time in Nigeria. I learnt English in no time.
TV helped alot too. Saturday Morning Cartoons in Lagos. NTA2 CHANNEL 5. I miss those good old days.
When we were teenagers, my elder sister and I joined multiple video-clubs there in Lagos. The year 1992. Fresh out of secondary school (FGC-Idoani, Ondo State).
We even joined GAP VIDEO CLUB on Onayade Street, Fadeyi. I doubt that little company still exists now in 2026.
I got familiar with the great works of many American and British actors. The list is almost endless.
Cindy Crawford. Vanessa Williams. Kevin Kline. Marlon Brando. Will Smith. Jamie Lee Curtis. Julia Roberts. Richard Gere. John Travolta. Olivia Newton John. Sylvester Stallone. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Roger Moore. Anthony Hopkins. Eddy Murphy. Steve Martin. Kathleen Turner. Val Kilmer. Danny Devito. Michael Douglas. Joe Pesci. Al Pacino. Macaulay Culkin. Etc.
We watched those great movies. We studied them. We loved them.
A Fish Called Wanda. Stop Or My Mum Will Shoot. Cliff Hanger. Grease. Terminator. Purple Rain. Etc.
Those were good times.
Growing up in Lagos was great fun.
You will never truly know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.
