Monday is one of the most productive days of the week, and customers are most motivated to take action and begin something new. Psychologists even call this the "fresh start effect." People return to work with new priorities, fresh goals, and a stronger willingness to solve problems. But our sales and marketing teams waste it, chasing dogma, rather than meeting prospects where they currently are.

If I were leading the marketing strategy on your team, I would try as much as possible to break free from the performative activities associated with Mondays: the unending meetings, the weekend gist updates, the panic attacks from the reports nobody reads, the new week plan that is an exact replica of last week's, and every other activity that makes us feel productive without actually moving the business forward.

Instead, I would focus on the activities that get us noticed by the right people, earn trust, improve retention, and ultimately lead to better sales.

Here are five things you should do on Monday instead of the roller coaster of internal meetings and reports.

1. Follow up with old leads.
Most businesses spend more time looking for new customers than following up with people who have already shown interest. Monday is the perfect time to reconnect with leads from the previous week or over the weekend. Chances are, they're back at work, checking emails, reviewing priorities, and making decisions.

2. Publish content that answers your customers' biggest questions.
On Mondays, people are looking for solutions, not sales pitches. Instead of posting another "Happy New Week" graphic, create content that helps your audience solve a problem, make a better decision, or avoid a costly mistake. Helpful content will always outperform noise.

3. Review your sales pipeline, not just your reports.
I have never understood why teams spend hours discussing numbers they cannot change instead of opportunities they still can. Rather than staring at dashboards, identify the deals closest to closing, the prospects that need a follow-up, and the leads that have gone cold. Then do something about them.

4. Go prospecting.
Every Monday should add new people to your pipeline. Send that email. Make that call. Reach out on LinkedIn. Ask for referrals. Engage with potential customers. Your sales pipeline doesn't magically refill itself because it's a new week.

5. Study customer behaviour and make one improvement.
Don't just ask how your marketing performed. Ask why it performed that way. Which campaign attracted the best leads? Which content generated conversations? Where did prospects lose interest? Data is only useful when it influences your next move.

The irony is that while most teams are still inside a conference room discussing what they should do this week, customers are already online searching for solutions.

The question is, will they find you, or your competitor?

NB: I know you like your new week meeting; can we please make that Tuesdays?
