NSUK Medical Programmes Set for Take-Off in 2026/2027 as Gov. Sule Meets Jega-Led Governing Council

The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, has met with the Governing Council and academic staff of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), as the institution advances plans to introduce medical programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The meeting, held on Friday, October 2, 2026, brought together the Governor and a delegation from the university led by Professor Muhammadu Attahiru Jega, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

The engagement focused on issues affecting the university, with the delegation briefing Governor Sule on the institution’s efforts to commence medical programmes and facilitate the take-off of its College of Medicine and Allied Sciences.

The proposed medical programmes and the establishment of the college are expected to mark a significant development in the university’s academic expansion, subject to the necessary approvals and institutional requirements.

During the meeting, the university delegation presented updates on the progress made towards introducing the programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for the state government and the university’s leadership to discuss matters relating to the institution’s operations and development.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, NSUK Chapter, has conditionally suspended its internal industrial action effective at 12:00 am midnight. This is in honour of the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Attahiru Jega.

Consequently, academic activities resume tomorrow, Thursday, 17th September, 2026.

BREAKING THE DEADLOCK: Jega Spearheads Strategic Dialogue to End NSUK-ASUU Strike

In a bold and decisive intervention aimed at restoring academic normalcy at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, has convened a high-level strategic meeting with the University Management and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The crucial meeting, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja, focused on exploring innovative, practical and sustainable modalities for resolving the four-week-old industrial dispute and restoring normal academic activities at the University.

The meeting, convened by the Governing Council Chairman, brought together the ASUU leadership, the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, members of the Governing Council and other Principal Officers.

Under the leadership and guidance of Professor Jega, a respected scholar and experienced university administrator, the parties engaged in frank and constructive discussions aimed at identifying common ground and workable solutions to the issues underlying the industrial action.

Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman and the University Management reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement and every reasonable effort towards resolving the impasse in the overall interest of the University and its students.

The Abuja engagement represents a significant step in the collective efforts to restore industrial harmony at NSUK. The active involvement of the Governing Council Chairman, working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management, underscores the University's strong institutional commitment to resolving the dispute and safeguarding the continuity of academic activities.
