🇳🇬 NIGERIA'S PROPOSED EDUCATION REFORM: CLASS STRUCTURE CHANGES
The Federal Government has proposed replacing the long-standing 6-3-3-4 education system with a 6-6-4 structure (12 years of uninterrupted basic education). The proposal is intended to create a smoother learning journey and reduce student dropouts. It is still subject to formal approval.
📚 Current Structure (6-3-3-4)
- Primary 1 – Primary 6 (6 years)
- JSS 1 – JSS 3 (3 years)
- SS 1 – SS 3 (3 years)
- University (4+ years)
🚀 Proposed Structure (6-6-4)
- Primary 1 – Primary 6 (6 years)
- Secondary 1 – Secondary 6 (6 continuous years)
- University (4+ years)
🔄 What's Changing?
✅ JSS and SSS will be merged into one continuous 6-year secondary school.
✅ No separate transition between Junior and Senior Secondary.
✅ Aims to improve continuity, reduce dropouts, and simplify progression through basic education.
