Oyo teachers go on indefinite strike over abducted colleagues and pupils........

The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has gone on an indefinite strike beginning from Monday, June 1, 2026, till further notice.

The State NUT Chairman, Comrade Hassan Fatai, gave the directive in a statement on Monday, June 1.

Fatai said the industrial action is to protest against the continued captivity of abducted teachers and pupils in the state.

The NUT added that the industrial action is also aimed at drawing the attention of government to the urgent need to intensify efforts toward securing the safe release of the abductees without further delay.

The union called on all teachers to comply fully with the directive, remain law-abiding, and stay safe in their respective homes throughout the period of the strike.

“The action is intended to draw the attention of government and security agencies to the urgent need to intensify efforts towards the safe rescue of our colleagues and the pupils still in captivity,” the statement said.

This comes after President Bola Tinubu gave a directive on Sunday, May 31, for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students.

In January 2026, his ex-wife, Mandy, went public with shocking claims about the breakdown of their marriage. She alleged that Mark Angel had consistently pressured her into uncomfortable marital situations. In commemoration with world Menstrual Hygiene Day, the women leader of Anambra state CityBoy Movement and Daughter of the governor of Anambra, Adaora Soludo carried out an outreach programme at Nnamdi Azikiwe University which was focused on promoting menstrual hygiene, dignity, confidence, and civic responsibility among young women.

Through conversations, encouragement, and sanitary pad distribution, the CityBoy Movement team reminded girls that menstruation is nothing to be ashamed of and that every young woman deserves access to the right information, support, and care.

She also encouraged eligible students to register and obtain their PVC, because their voice matters and their participation is important in shaping the future of Anambra state and Nigeria.

President Tinubu sends Ribadu, IGP, Gbajabiamila, Defence Minister to Oyo over abducted pupils and teachers......

President Tinubu on Sunday, May 31st, sent a delegation including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, to meet with community leaders and families of teachers, students and pupils abducted from schools in the areaon May 15.

Suspected armed bandits invaded the local government and abducted teachers and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School all within the local government.

During the visit, the Federal Government delegation met with community leaders and relatives of the victims as efforts continue to secure the release of those still being held captive.

The visit comes amid growing anxiety among residents and relatives of the abducted victims, who have continued to appeal to both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to secure the safe release of those still in captivity.

Security agencies have yet to provide an official update on the whereabouts of the abductees, but rescue efforts are said to be ongoing.
