Certifications are not worth it!

End post....

Ok now that I have your attention.

Certifications are not worth it, if you do not have the applicable job experience to back up your 20 certs.

But they are worth it when:
- you are trying to get in to the field
- you trying to get an interview
- and when you need to justify the amount you are wanting to make.

Are you a Network Engineer? Or Systems admin or even on the help desk?

I want you to ask yourself a few honest questions.

How well do you know your job?

Are you the go to person?

How many projects are you on?

How many projects have you lead?

How well can you troubleshoot problems in your network?

Can you explain in detail what you do and what you have done in your current position?

If you are unable to answer these questions with confidence and you are focused on a certification. That is not relevant to your current job duties. I think you should take a minute to refocus.

Experience and applicable knowledge is KING! Don’t miss the opportunities that are right in front of you, because those will benefit you most!

Livening Up Your Classroom for Certification Success

Teaching is more than just passing along information. It’s creating an environment of engagement and curiosity. Students appreciate a lively classroom that inspires them to gain valuable career and technical education skills, and to get certified.

How can you create an environment that gets students excited about certification? Teachers across the world have shared photos of inspiring spaces, classrooms where students’ enthusiasm can be channeled in a positive direction. We’ve seen classrooms with certificate walls, trophies, posters and much more to promote career and technical education and certification – now it’s time for you to utilize these same ideas in your space.

Here are some ways to liven up your classroom in 2019:

Forget Google calendars for a minute – take it old school and print a free Microsoft Excel calendar. Fill out all of the important exam, certification and competition dates and post it on the wall.
Download free motivational desktop wallpaper to your machine along with the machines in your computer lab.
Create a massive certification wall of fame. Either post certificates, names, or photos to recognize every individual who earns certification.
Print a poster to recognize CTE month in February.
Promote the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship and Adobe Certified Associate World Championships in your classroom with free posters and flyers. Many teachers also post local leader boards to encourage students to take the top spots.
Request a program kit to help promote certification programs to your students. We encourage you to request one new program kit each year for all of the certification programs you offer. These include posters, window clings, a lapel pin, and more!
All of these ideas will take just a few minutes to get rolling, but they will help to build excitement for your certification programs. Now, get busy and send some pictures of your classroom progress to us so we can share your great ideas!

Demonstrate the value of earning certification.

We know high school students (and even college students) aren’t always ready to be serious about their careers, but do your best to help them see how certification will help them on their path. Invite local employers to come to the classroom and talk about the workplace skills they look for in job candidates. Take your students on a field trip to see these skills in action. Invite former graduates who got certified to share a testimonial.

Good luck, and when you find something that works, share it with us!
