Outrage Trails Alleged Police Killing of Handcuffed Suspect, Questions Mount Over Missing Evidence

By Adewale Omo Olubo I All Day TV News

Public anger is mounting over an alleged incident involving operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, where a handcuffed suspect said to be cooperating with officers was reportedly shot dead under controversial circumstances.

Eyewitness accounts and a viral statement circulating on social media claim the suspect was apprehended while in possession of a sealed parcel and had offered to lead officers to the location where he received it. According to the claims, a driver was also willing to assist investigators in tracing the origin of the package.

However, rather than follow through with the lead, the officers allegedly shot the suspect before any further investigation could be conducted—raising serious questions about procedure, accountability, and possible obstruction of justice.

Allegations of Extrajudicial Action

Critics have described the incident as a potential case of extrajudicial killing, arguing that the suspect posed no immediate threat, especially while restrained and cooperative.

Legal analysts note that the use of lethal force by law enforcement is strictly governed by rules of engagement, typically justified only in situations of imminent danger or self-defense. In this case, observers argue that the circumstances—as described—do not appear to meet that threshold.

“This is not a battlefield scenario,” one rights advocate said. “If a suspect is already in custody and offering useful information, the priority should be investigation—not execution.”

Demand for Transparency

The controversy has deepened following reports that the identity of the officer involved remains unclear, with images allegedly showing a masked or partially concealed figure. This has fueled suspicion among members of the public, some of whom are questioning whether there is an attempt to shield those responsible.

There are also calls for authorities to disclose who authorized the operation, the chain of command involved, and whether standard operational procedures were followed.

Police Yet to Issue Detailed Response

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not released a comprehensive official statement addressing the specific allegations. Efforts to obtain clarification on the incident, including confirmation of the suspect’s identity and the circumstances leading to the shooting, are ongoing.

Calls for Independent Investigation

Civil society groups and concerned citizens are demanding an independent probe into the incident, warning that failure to properly investigate could further erode public trust in law enforcement institutions.

They are also urging oversight bodies, including the Police Service Commission, to step in and ensure accountability if any wrongdoing is established.

Broader Concerns Over Policing Standards

The incident has reignited debate over policing standards, use of force, and the need for reforms within Nigeria’s security architecture. Observers warn that without transparency and accountability, such incidents risk undermining ongoing efforts to rebuild confidence in law enforcement.

For now, many questions remain unanswered: Who ordered the shooting? Why was a potentially critical lead not pursued? And could the suspect have provided information that might have uncovered a larger criminal network?

Until those questions are addressed, the incident is likely to remain a flashpoint in ongoing discussions about justice, human rights, and police accountability in Nigeria.

2027: No Tinubu Endorsement Yet, Lagos APC Race Still Open — Jandor

By Adewale Omo Olubo I All Day TV News

Former Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has dismissed reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the preferred All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

He insisted that there has been neither a presidential endorsement nor a formal declaration of interest from Hamzat.

Jandor, now an APC aspirant contesting for the same position, made this known during Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he pushed back against claims that the race had already been decided in Hamzat’s favour.

Speaking on Hamzat’s candidacy, Jandor said: “He hasn’t even said to us himself that he is running. He is the deputy governor of Lagos, qualified, with over 20 years of experience in that space.”

Reacting to speculations of a presidential endorsement, he maintained that aspirants like himself would be the first to know if such a decision had been taken.

“No, the President hasn’t endorsed anyone. I am an aspirant, and we are a few people also gunning for this. We will be the first set of people to know if there is anything like that because communication will come,” he said.

Jandor further noted that the APC has not indicated any plan for a consensus arrangement, stressing that the party is currently leaning towards direct primaries.

APC Primaries Still Uncertain

The former PDP chieftain emphasised that the mode of primary election would play a critical role in determining the eventual candidate, noting that a transparent process would allow party members to freely choose their preferred flagbearer.

According to him, ongoing consultations within the party suggest a growing preference for direct primaries, a system that allows all registered party members to participate in the selection process.

He argued that such an approach would strengthen internal democracy and reduce the influence of political imposition.

Race Expected to Intensify

Political observers say the Lagos APC governorship race is likely to intensify in the coming months as more aspirants signal interest ahead of 2027.

While Hamzat remains a prominent figure within the state government, other potential contenders within the ruling party are also believed to be weighing their options, although formal declarations are yet to gather momentum.

Jandor, who defected from the PDP to the APC earlier this year, expressed confidence in his chances, saying his political structure and grassroots engagement would give him an edge in a competitive primary.

Call for Level Playing Field

He also called on party leadership to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, warning that any attempt to impose a candidate could create disaffection within the party.

“We are all loyal party members, and what we want is a fair process that gives everyone an equal opportunity,” he added.

As the 2027 election cycle gradually comes into focus, attention is expected to remain on Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, where succession politics within the APC continues to shape early alignments and strategic positioning among key stakeholders.

HISTORIC FIRST: Sanwo-Olu Installs Alara of Ilara as LASU’s 6th Chancellor

By Adewale Omo Olubo | All Day TV News

LAGOS — In a landmark development for higher education in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has formally sworn in the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), marking the first time a traditional ruler will occupy the prestigious position.

The historic investiture ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 7, at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Alausa, Ikeja, drew an array of dignitaries, including members of the university’s Governing Council, top management officials, and prominent traditional rulers across the state.

Oba Ogunsanwo succeeds renowned legal luminary, Prof. Gbolahan Elias (SAN), whose tenure recently came to an end. His appointment, in line with the Lagos State University Law of 2004 (as amended), is for an initial term of five years, renewable for a final term of equal duration.

A Historic Shift in LASU’s Leadership Tradition

Describing the appointment as both “deliberate and historic,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said the decision reflects a strategic blend of cultural heritage and modern governance ideals.

“This is the first time since LASU’s establishment that a traditional ruler is entrusted with the office of Chancellor,” the governor stated. “It underscores our belief in the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in governance, social cohesion, and moral leadership.”

He noted that Oba Ogunsanwo’s emergence symbolizes a vital alignment between tradition and modernity—an approach he said is critical to achieving sustainable development in the education sector and beyond.

‘A Moral Compass for the University’

Highlighting the significance of the role, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the office of Chancellor goes beyond ceremonial duties, describing it as a symbol of continuity, dignity, and institutional values.

“The Chancellor serves as a moral compass, a custodian of tradition, and an ambassador of the university’s ideals,” he said, urging the monarch to foster unity among stakeholders and uphold LASU’s reputation for academic excellence.

The governor further charged the new Chancellor to support the university’s mission of producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also ethically grounded and socially responsible.

Strengthening LASU’s Global Relevance

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening LASU as a hub for innovative, policy-driven research capable of addressing contemporary societal challenges.

“This investiture marks the beginning of a new chapter—one we are confident will usher in stability, growth, and renewed prestige for LASU,” he added.

‘Fusion of Heritage and Knowledge’ — Commissioner

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, described the appointment as “a fusion of intellect, heritage, and higher learning.”

According to him, Oba Ogunsanwo’s vast administrative experience, including his tenure as Chairman of the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), positions him to attract strategic partnerships and elevate LASU’s standing in the global academic community.

Expectations High as Monarch Takes Helm

With expectations running high, stakeholders believe the new Chancellor’s unique blend of traditional authority and public sector experience will strengthen institutional governance and deepen community engagement.

Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment is widely seen as a bold step toward integrating indigenous leadership structures into modern educational administration—an approach many observers say could redefine university governance models in Nigeria.

As LASU embarks on this new phase, attention now turns to how the royal father will leverage his office to advance the university’s vision in an increasingly competitive global education landscape.

MUSLIMS IN ONDO SEEK INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE, URGE AIYEDATIWA TO BALANCE POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS

By Adewale Omo Olubo | All Day TV News

Muslim stakeholders in Ondo State have called on Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to ensure greater inclusiveness in political appointments, despite commending his administration for ongoing developmental strides across the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Chief Adanlawo Taofeeq Olabode, State Treasurer of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO), praised the governor’s leadership since assuming office, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, security, and public service delivery.

He noted that road projects in Akure and along the Ore–Okitipupa corridor, as well as progress toward the Ondo State Deep Sea Port, have demonstrated the administration’s commitment to development. He also cited improvements in healthcare services and enhanced security operations through the Amotekun Corps as key milestones.

According to him, the consistent payment of salaries and overall stability in governance further reflect a government focused on delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

However, Chief Olabode expressed concern over what he described as the underrepresentation of Muslims in critical government positions, despite their significant population in the state, estimated between 35 and 45 percent.

He specifically pointed to the offices of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Senior Special Assistants (SSA), and Special Assistants (SA), where he said Muslim representation remains limited.

“Our appeal is rooted in fairness and the need for inclusive governance,” he said. “We respectfully urge His Excellency to ensure that qualified Muslims are adequately represented, particularly in SSA and SA positions, where we propose a 30 to 40 percent allocation.”

Olabode emphasized that inclusive governance would not only promote unity but also strengthen public trust and foster a sense of belonging among all groups in the state.

He added that equitable representation is vital for sustaining peace and cooperation in a diverse society like Ondo State.

“Inclusive government is the foundation of a stronger and more united Ondo State. Every group deserves to feel seen, heard, and represented,” he stated.

The appeal comes amid ongoing political consultations and appointments within the state, as stakeholders continue to advocate for balanced representation across ethnic, religious, and social lines.
