HERE IS A BRIEF CLARIFICATION

Facebook, Inc. changed their name to Meta Platforms, Inc., doing business as Meta.

Meta Platforms, Inc. doing business as Meta (formerly Facebook, Inc.) is an American multinational technology conglomerate holding company based in Menlo Park, California.

Facebook (or Facebook app) is an American online social media and social networking service owned by Meta Platforms, Inc. or simply Meta.

Meta is a holding company.
Facebook is one of the social media apps owned by Meta.

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Oculus, Mapillary, Workplace, Portal, Diem are now subsidiaries of Meta (formerly owned by Facebook, Inc.)

Meta is NOT the new name for the Facebook app (social media app).

Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta) is the new name for Facebook, Inc. (the company).

Now, the company is beyond social media platforms as the rebrand set Meta as a forward-looking creator of a new digital world known as the “metaverse.”

“Facebook is one of the most-used products in the world. But increasingly, it doesn’t encompass everything that we do. Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything we are doing.”

“From now on, we’re going to be the metaverse first. Not Facebook first,” Mark Zuckerberg said at Connect, the company’s annual event focused on virtual and augmented reality.
