There are two kinds of people who come to buy laptops. 😂

The first person says:

“Padi, I need a laptop for this and this. My budget is between ₦300k and ₦400k.”

Easy. We know what we're looking for.

Then there is the second person. 😂

“I need something for Canva, video editing, graphics, gaming, coding, freelancing, Zoom, business, Photoshop, maybe 3D design…”

Okay. No problem.
“What's your budget?”
“₦200k.”

😭😭😭

And usually this set of people want the Bugatti of laptops at that 2OOk.

It's true that you could have a lot of things you want to do with a laptop but it's important to know when it requires a completely different kind of laptop.

Browsing?
Microsoft Office?
Zoom meetings?
Canva?

No wahala.

But when you add heavy video editing, 3D Design, games,

Then you'll have to look for a completely different specs.

So when you say you want something powerful, know that it varies based on what you do

Because the laptop that is perfect for one person may be completely wrong for another.

And you don't necessarily need the laptop with the biggest specifications.
You need one that can comfortably handle the work you actually want to do…

without making your pocket cry. 😁

Tell us your budget.
Then let's look at what makes sense.

Sometimes we'll tell you, “Yes, this will work.”Sometimes we'll say, “You'll need something stronger.”

Your laptop is not your child. 😂

Please, stop being emotionally attached to the Core i7 written on the sticker.

I know. I know.

You saw "Intel Core i7" …and immediately you think it has to be the best option for you.

If I hear…!!! 😂 That's not necessarily true.

An older i7 can be slower, less efficient and less suitable for your needs than a newer i5. That means there are other questions you should ask.

That's why when someone says they want Core i7, the follow up question is :

Okay. But why?

What are you doing with it?

How much RAM do you need?

SSD or HDD ?

What generation is the processor?

What kind of applications will you run?

And most importantly...
How much are you willing to spend?

(You can't be looking for a core i7 touchscreen with 512gb ssd and 16gb ram with 200k. See you see premium tears!)

The answers to these questions help determine which laptop is best for you.

Think about it this way:
If you want to travel from Lagos to Ibadan, you don't necessarily need the most expensive car.

You need a good car that can comfortably take you there. No stress, no sweat.

Just cool AC and speed so you'll get there on time.

Same thing with laptops.

So the next time somebody tells you to only buy an i7, just smile. 😄 And then ask better questions.

Trust me, you may save yourself some money.
But beyond that, you will be able to see what better options are available for you.

So when you are getting a laptop from me, know that I would be asking you these questions in order to serve you better.

No be everybody de use clear eyes de find laptop. And sometimes, you're not getting a laptop just because you want to but because you have plans.

You're looking at what the laptop will help you do.

🤸 Maybe you're trying to learn a digital skill.

🤸 Maybe you've just started working remotely.

🤸 Maybe you're setting up a small business.

🤸 Maybe you're getting into freelancing.

😜 Or maybe life don finally taya your old laptop.

And that's why we don't believe choosing a laptop should start with:

“Give me the cheapest Core i7.”

Or:

“What's your most powerful laptop?”

The better question is:

“What do you need the laptop to do?”

Because the laptop that's perfect for a graphic designer may be unnecessary for someone doing bookkeeping.

The laptop that's great for a student may not be enough for someone editing videos.

And sometimes, you can spend ₦500k on a laptop when a properly chosen ₦300k–₦400k machine would have done exactly what you needed.

That's why when you come to us looking for a laptop, we don't just want to know your budget.
We want to understand what you're trying to accomplish.
Then we can help you choose something that actually makes sense.

HP.
Dell.
Lenovo.
And others.

With different specifications and different price points.

But before you choose one, let's have a conversation.

“Padi, I want Core i7.”

That sentence alone has made me ask plenty questions over the years. 😂

Because immediately, I want to know:

▪️ Which generation?

▪️ How much RAM?

▪️ SSD or HDD?

▪️ What are you using it for?

▪️ And how long do you expect to use it?

Sometimes, after asking all these questions, we discover something interesting:

The person doesn't actually need Core i7.

They just heard, “Core i7 is more higher so go for it.”

So naturally, they think, “If I want a good laptop, let me just buy i7.” 😄

But laptops don't work quite that simply.
A newer Core i5 can be a better choice than an older Core i7.

And two laptops can both carry the “Core i7” name and still be very different machines.

It's like saying:
“I want a Toyota.”

Okay...Which Toyota? 😂

A Corolla isn't a Camry.
A Camry isn't a Land Cruiser.
Or is it Sienna for family purposes?

The name “Toyota” alone doesn't tell you everything.
Same thing with Core i5, i7, etc.

So because you were told a core i7 doesn't necessarily mean that you are getting the best. And then there's the part of your budget. Does it fit the specs you were told to get?

So while I'm concerned about the specs you want, I'm also concerned that it fits your need and matches the budget you have.

And that's why I'd rather help you spend N300k on the right laptop than help you spend N500k on the wrong one.

The question is...

Are you willing to work with me on that?

And honestly, that's one thing I've learned from selling laptops:

The best laptop isn't necessarily the one with the biggest specification.

It's the one that makes sense for you.

So if you're planning to buy a laptop soon, don't just tell me, “Padi, give me Core i7.” 😂
Tell me what you want to use it for.
Then let's start from there.
