Network Design & Troubleshooting for LightSphere Conference Centre, Abuja
Client Request :
1. Whenever we have a major conference, hundreds of guests connect to the Wi-Fi and the Network becomes slower and some users can’t connect
2. We currently have around 500+ people during major events, but we expect attendance and connected devices to increase.
3. During live events, our media team streams videos and uploads large files. Their connection becomes slow whenever many guests are using the Internet.
4. Our switches, routers and other network devices need to be managed securely. Normal users should not have access to them.
5. Also don’t want media to be able to access Admin and CCTV
My Solution:
1. Increase in IP-address capacity for more users and scalability
2. Introduction of network segmentation and isolation of guest network
3. Introduced Ether channel and Increase in Access point device to Increase Bandwidth
Implementation:
Administration Vlan
Media Vlan
CCTV Vlan
Guest Vlan
Inter-Vlan Routing
ACLs (For Isolation )
Manually shutting down of all unused Interfaces on the switch
Client problem solved
Project Lesson:
A good network should also be prepared for tomorrow’s users and traffic not only today
Network engineer is also about understanding the client’s business requirements and translating them into a network that is scalable, secure, reliable and maintainable
