Information Communication Technology(ICT) and the need for Teachers Training

According to the 2014 e-Skills for Jobs in Europe report, the EU’s shortage of qualified ICT professionals reached over half a million in 2015, and 900,000 by 2020. However, while much of the current debate focuses on how best to educate students, little is mentioned about teacher training.
The ICT Teachers in Nasarawa State have been tasked to take charge of the Digital transformation of their schools through training and retraining of both the staff and students of their schools, stating that as ambassadors of ICT they should ensure that more persons should benefit from their skilled experience as well as ensure they contribute to the development of a better educational system.
This was disclosed by the Director General Bureau For Information and Communication Technology Shehu Ibrahim during a meeting with Ministry of Education Officials and the teachers of Information Technology (Obi and Lafia ) at the conference Hall of the Ministry of Education.
He described the ICT Teachers as very essential workers due to the 21st-century skills, ICT capability, and ICT literacy they impact on students while preparing them for an integrated society dominated by ICT developments as well as enrooting the notion of using ICT as a tool for lifelong learning with CBT Exams, JAMB, WAEC, and Third Party examinations as the target goal.
The DG stated that the Nasarawa state Government Administration of His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule was committed to the digital transformation of the state and ICT was a key component that would not be compromised, especially with the need to leverage the utilization of ICT for continuous education in case of disruption (emergency, disaster, pandemics) in the education sector.
