Scene 1: Annie’s Living Room, Evening
[Annie sits on the couch with her phone in hand. There’s a nervous energy in the air. Cathy enters with a laundry basket.]

CATHY: (noticing Annie's distraction) That phone will soon grow roots in your hand. What’s he saying now?
ANNIE: (sighs) Nothing new, Mama. Just that he misses me... and he’s thinking of coming home soon.
CATHY: (drops the basket) That’s what he’s been saying for the past year. Thinking? A man who loves you knows. He doesn’t just think.
ANNIE: (defensive) He does love me.
CATHY: Then he better start acting like it. Didn’t I tell you? A year. If he’s not serious after a year, you let go. Love doesn’t live in limbo, my dear.
[Phone buzzes. Annie looks at it, lights up.]
ANNIE: It’s him. He wants to video call.
CATHY: (grabs her basket) Fine. But remember, don’t sell yourself cheap to someone who won’t cross oceans for you. Literally.
[She exits. Annie answers the call. Lights dim slightly to indicate shift.]
