2.) You are unconsciously Starting a New Business
----------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes a blog starts out as a hobby only to become a full-time business.

That’s what happened to Pat Flynn, who created a blog called Green Exam Academy (www.greenexamacademy.com) simply to share his thoughts and insights on architecture. When Flynn was laid off from his job, he decided to take his blog a little bit more seriously and about one year later the blog had become a $100,000 per year business.

That type of growth isn’t typical. But Flynn’s story is a great example of how a simple blog can be the foundation for a thriving business if you’re willing to commit to it.

Biggest Benefits of Blogging

1.) Opportunity to Get a Better Job

According to (http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/social-scores-jobs_b30309)MediaBistro, nine in ten companies mine online profiles before making a new hire. Employers want to hire people who have a strong online influence:Put simply, employers prefer to hire people with a positive online influence and blogging is the single best way to achieve that.

“Determining influence is so critical to brands because this is what drives word of mouth validation – typically the most powerful and cost-effective marketing method available.”

Mark Schaefer, from an interview on Inc.com

AMD has been on a hiring spree, picking two former Apple and Qualcomm engineers. This has led to suggestions that the Sunnyvale, California-based chipmaker is planning to carve out a professional tablet market.
(Credit: AMD)

Officially, AMD isn't talking about its plans, but what other companies do can give us a clue as to what AMD might be up to. At this year's SolidWorks World conference, Dassault Systèmes' chief executive Bernard Charles had the chance to see the SolidWorks software running on a prototype Fujitsu tablet featuring an AMD FirePro accelerated processing unit (APU).

FirePro is AMD's professional workstation graphics solution, aimed at computer-aided design (CAD) and digital content creation (DCC) professionals. Putting this graphics processing unit (GPU) inside a tablet transforms what is generally--but inaccurately--seen as a content-consumption device into a high-performance content-creation device.

AMD already has FirePro APUs listed on its website, the A300-series. This is aimed at entry-level and mainstream CAD and DSS workstations. These APUs are based on the "Trinity" architecture and have a TDP of 65W and 100W for the A300 and A320, respectively, which are far too high for tablet applications. This means that the APU running the tablet is a prototype, likely a modified "Hondo" part with professional graphics capabilities and certification.

This tablet gives AMD a massive advantage. While the likes of Nvidia and Qualcomm have ARM-based chips that can run Windows RT, AMD's APU would be able to run Windows 8 Pro along with regular desktop apps. This would give AMD an enormous advantage over the competition.

The question is, is there actually a market for professional tablets? If there is, AMD could be in a position to be the first to enter this new high profit margin sector.

Is this why AMD has been on a hiring spree?

Nvidia to make reference smartphones and tablets: Rumor

So far, chipmaker Nvidia has been content with making chipsets for post-PC devices, but rumors now suggest that the company may be getting ready to take a more hands-on approach to hardware designs.

According to Russian tech site Mobile Review, the way Nvidia plans to do this is by creating reference designs for smartphones and tablets that use its chipsets, and these hardware reference designs can then be adopted by other OEMs and ODMs for their own hardware.

The idea behind offering reference designs is that it is a quick and easy way to get hardware makers to adopt particular platforms and chipsets--in this case, Nvidia's Tegra mobile silicon--because much of the heavy design and engineering work has already been done. This significantly reduces the cost of bringing the hardware to market.

Also, by creating its own reference hardware, Nvidia will be able to have more leverage over hardware makers in terms of price point or standard of quality.

The rumor goes on to suggest that hardware based on these reference designs will debut by add-in-board (AIB) partners at Computex in June this year.

It should be remembered that Nvidia has years of experience producing graphics card reference samples, and it is likely that this experience could be tailored to producing smartphone and tablet reference designs too. However, a downside to graphics card reference designs is that most manufacturers come out with what is basically the same card, with little more than branding separating one vendor's product from another.

This isn't the first time that Nvidia has tried something like this. Back in May of 2012, it unveiled its Kai low-cost tablet platform, a plan that fizzed out mostly as a result of a lack of interest from hardware makers.

Research In Motion, now called simply 'BlackBerry', has finally announced details of its first BlackBerry 10 handset, the 4G-capable BlackBerry Z10.

The device is the first to use the new BlackBerry 10 OS based around the concepts of Hub, Flow and Peek, and signals BlackBerry's ambition to take on rival headline-dominating handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 or iPhone.

The Z10's core specs include a 4.2-inch 4-point multi-touch display with a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be augmented by an additional 32GB with a microSD card.

While the device is clearly aimed at traditional BlackBerry users, BlackBerry also knows it needs to appeal to consumers too (including the Bring Your Own Device crowd). It's covering both input bases: the Z10 will come with a touchscreen, and a Qwerty and touchscreen equipped model (also announced on Wednesday) to be released in the near future.

The Z10's lock screen, which shows notification updates on the left-hand side without the need to unlock the device, is shown above.

Research in Motion today launched two new devices running the long-awaited BlackBerry 10 platform at events around the world, including London, Paris and Dubai. And to illustrate how BlackBerry 10 is an all-or-nothing bet on the future, RIM has rebranded itself BlackBerry as a company. The BlackBerry maker also announced two new devices: the touch-screen BlackBerry Z10 and the hardware keyboard enabled BlackBerry Q10. Both devices come with a 1.5Ghz dual core processors with 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and an expandable memory card slot. Also includes is a micro-HDMI output port on each device and near-field communications (NFC).

And, as expected, both devices will connect to compatible 4G LTE and HSPA+ networks.

The Z10 will be available from March in the U.S. on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, but price will vary by carrier. Heins attributed the network testing phase as being the main reasons in the delay. It will be available in the U.K. tomorrow on all carriers—including EE, O2, Vodafone, BT and Three—with pricing set by carrier. The Z10 will be available in Canada on February 5.

The smartphone maker said the Z10 will retail for "around $149.99 on a three year contract."

The Q10 will be made available to worldwide carriers in April, and pricing will range between £36—£45 per month for a two year contract on most networks. In most cases, up-front fees should be expected.
