THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, 7TH JUNE, 2026
(First Sunday after Trinity)
TOPIC: PRUNING: A REQUIREMENT TO BEAR MUCH FRUITS
READ: JOHN 15:1-5

15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He [a]takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

THE MESSAGE:

Pruning refers to trimming a tree, shrub or bush, by cutting away dead, overgrown branches or stems, especially to encourage growth. In Agriculture, pruning involves the selective removal of parts of a plant for the purpose of improving its health, shape and productivity. This concept comes out clearly in our passage today. Jesus says “Every branch that bears fruits He (The Father) prunes to make it bear more fruits." This reveals that the Father desires to see that everyone connected as a branch to the vine, bears fruits. Jesus describes Himself as the Vine and portrays His Father as the Vine-dresser (Vine-grower). Christians are the branches that have been empowered to bear fruits. In addition, Jesus says His branches should abide in Him in order to bear fruits just as the branch cannot bear fruits by itself unless it abides in the vine.

Beloved, God delights in your fruitfulness in all areas of life. He desires your productivity. His expectation from you is revealed in His words to you today: You must be pruned to bear much fruits! Pruning means that God would cut off certain unwanted and unpleasant things from your life; an exercise you may not find interesting. But then, it is for your greater good, so that you can bear more fruits. In case you are already going through some hard situations; please open your spiritual eyes to know what God is doing - He may be taking you through a pruning period. It could be painful now but the end will make you glad.

PRAYER: Father, give me all it takes to be calm and understand when You prune me. Amen.

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SATURDAY, JUNE 06, 2026
TOPIC: THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST IS UNIVERSAL
READ: GALATIANS 2:1-10

Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also.
2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.
3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek.
4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.
5 We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
6 As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message.
7 On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised,[a] just as Peter had been to the circumcised.[b]
8 For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles.
9 James, Cephas[c] and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised.
10 All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.

THE MESSAGE:

The mission of Jesus Christ is not to a particular section of the human race but to the entire world. The mission statement in John 3:16 shows clearly that no group of the human race is left out in the salvation plan of God. Our text today reveals how Paul noted clearly that he was an apostle by grace to the Gentiles (the uncircumcised) while Peter, James and John, had the mandate of taking the Gospel of Christ to the circumcised (verses 7-9). Ultimately, the two missions came from the same source and fulfil the same purpose of making Jesus Christ known and accepted by everyone everywhere. This shows the universal nature of the mission and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Beloved, wherever people are present, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is relevant. The mission of Christ is both to the Church and the unbelieving. The reason for the constant preaching of the Gospel is to ensure it gets to all. You cannot be indifferent - you have a part to play. God has sent you as an ambassador to bear His name in such places you find yourself regularly. Let your light shine brightly before men so that when you invite them to join your faith, they will be glad to embrace the salvation of Christ. You too can preach the Gospel. Be on mission for the Lord.

PRAYER: Father, let me not waste the grace You have given me. Let me use it for Your purpose.

CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: FRIDAY, JUNE 05, 2026
TOPIC: WE NEED ONE ANOTHER
READ: GALATIANS 1:18-24

18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas[a] and stayed with him fifteen days.
19 I saw none of the other apostles—only James, the Lord’s brother.
20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.
21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia.
22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.
23 They only heard the report: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”
24 And they praised God because of me.

THE MESSAGE:

Paul was a great apostle of all times. He was also a great instrument in the Kingdom of Christ. Our text today clearly rehearses his salvation story. Paul told the Galatians how he went to Jerusalem after his conversion and stayed with Peter for fifteen days and this stay, was for fellowship and encouragement. Peter, though one of the foremost disciples of Jesus Christ, was not as learned as Paul; he was a fisherman (Luke 5:1-3; Acts 4:13). Yet, Paul found it important to stay with him for fifteen days.

Beloved, it is a dangerous thing to attempt to make oneself an island in the practice of the Christian faith. No Christian is independent; we are all inter-dependent (Romans 12: 4 & 5). The educated need the uneducated, just as the rich need the less privileged members of the Church. We all need one another in order to grow in the practice of our faith. God has ordained that none of us functions independently; He delights in our genuine fellowship with one another. Therefore, remember that you need to connect to other believers in Christ so as to grow and maintain a healthy Christian life. Never look down on your fellow believers; do not claim superiority over anyone around you. Even if it is obvious that you are better than someone else, it is by God's grace (1 Corinthians 4:7). We will always need one another; do not look down on anyone.

PRAYER: Father, give me a genuine heart of fellowship without discrimination. Amen.

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: THURSDAY, JUNE 04, 2026
TOPIC: GOD OVERLOOKS OUR TIME OF IGNORANCE
READ: GALATIANS 1:11-17

11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin.
12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased
16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being.
17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.

THE MESSAGE:

There is no doubt that the apostle Paul was a great man through whom the Lord sharpened the theology and spirituality of the Church. Interestingly, there was a time in Paul's life when he was an enemy of the cross. He was an unrepentant promoter of Judaism and a zealous persecutor of the Church of Christ.
But when God showed him mercy and turned his life around, he became a vessel of glory and honour in the hands of God and the Church till today still celebrates his great work in the Kingdom of Christ (verses 13-17).

Beloved, there is no doubt that God is interested in turning every life around and making something great out of what the devil has corrupted through sin. God is focusing on your life; He wants to change you inside and outside. He wants you to surrender to Him and allow Him make you into the vessel that will bring His glory in your own world. As He used Paul to accomplish great things, so He desires to engage your life as an instrument of change and positive influence in your family, among your friends and in the society. He is calling you to cooperate with Him so He can bring the best out of you. There are greater things God wishes to use you achieve in this world. Allow Him to work His full purpose in you.

PRAYER: Father, give me the grace to make myself ready for your use in my world. Amen.
