TRY THIS BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO BUY A NEW PHONE
Before you rush to buy a new phone, have you checked what is actually eating your storage?
From my last post, I promise to share how you can know what is taking up too much space on your phone so you can manage your phone that keeps saying storage full until when you’re ready to get a new one.
These steps I’m about to show you is both for android and iOS users.
Let’s begin with Android users
If you are an android user, here’s how to check what is taking up your storage
Step 1: Open Settings
Go to Settings on your phone.
Step 2: Tap on “Storage”
Depending on your phone, it may be under:
- Storage or About Phone → Storage
Step 3: Check the Breakdown
You’ll see categories like:
- Apps
- Photos
- Videos
- Audio
- Documents
- System
Tap each category to see what is taking the most space. You will know this when you see the size of each file measured either in kilobytes (KB) megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB)
To Free Up Space on Your Android device, here’s a few things you should do
- Delete unused apps
- Clear app cache (Settings → Apps → Select App → Storage → Clear Cache)
- Move photos/videos to Google Photos or external storage
- Delete WhatsApp forwarded videos
- Empty your “Recently Deleted” folder in Gallery
- Use Files by Google app to clean junk files
For iPhone Users, here’s How to Check What Is Taking Up Your Storage
Step 1: Open Settings
Go to Settings
Step 2: Tap on “General”
Step 3: Tap “iPhone Storage”
You’ll see a full storage bar showing what is using space:
- Apps
- Photos
- iOS
- System Data
Scroll down to see apps arranged from largest to smallest.
To Free Up Space on your iPhone, follow the steps below
- Delete unused apps
- Offload apps (keeps data but removes the app)
- Delete large videos
- Clear Safari history (Settings → Safari → Clear History)
- Delete old voice notes
Before you conclude that your phone needs replacement, check your storage first.
If you’re not sure whether you are doing this right, comment your phone model and I’ll create a detailed visual guideline for you to follow.
Save this post so you can free up your storage later and share it with that friend if you found this helpful.
