Curtains Fall on SUG Freshers’ Cup: Faculty of BIOSSA Emerge Supreme

​The atmosphere at the university sports complex was electric today as the SUG Freshers’ Cup Tournament officially reached its climax. The competition, which has served as a primary platform for discovering new athletic talent among the first-year students, concluded with a high-stakes medal presentation ceremony.

The tournament was hosted and organized by the Director of Sports (DOS), Giant Comr. Maurice Nzubechukwu Okeke, whose office ensured a seamless ex*****on of the fixtures over the past weeks.

​After a series of intense matches and displays of sportsmanship, the following faculties claimed their spots on the podium:

​Female Category:
​1st Place (Gold): Faculty of Art
​2nd Place (Silver): Faculty of Education
​3rd Place (Bronze): Faculty of Agriculture

​Male Category:
​1st Place (Gold): Faculty of BIOSSA (Biological Sciences Students' Association)
​2nd Place (Silver): College of Medicine
​3rd Place (Bronze): Faculty of Social Sciences
​
A significant highlight of this year's tournament was the exceptional performance of the College of Medicine. In a historic turn of events, the medical students displayed remarkable prowess and technical skill on the field, marking the first time the faculty has ever come this close to clinching the Freshers' Cup title. Their silver-medal finish is being celebrated as a major milestone in the faculty's sporting history.

The President of the Student Union Government, Giant Comr. Chukwusom Samuel Ochuba Chisom Samuel Ochuba , personally presided over the ceremony, decorating the victors with medals and trophies. In his address, the President commended the "Giant" spirit of the freshmen, noting that sports remain a vital tool for unity and mental fortitude within the academic environment.

​The event was further graced by the presence of other members of the Executive Council, including Giant Comr. Chinedu Chiedozie Nwogwugwu (Financial Secretary) and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), who attended to show their solidarity and support for the athletes. Notably, the Public Relations Officer personally supervised the highlights coverage for the medal and cup presentation to ensure the peak moments of the victory were captured for the student body.

RECOVERY OF ₦240,000 AND CRACKDOWN ON ILLEGAL AGENTS IN IFITE

The Students’ Union Government, led by the President, Giant Rotr. Comr. Ochuba Chukwusom, has successfully intercepted a fraudulent scheme, leading to the recovery of ₦240,000 belonging to a 100-level student of our prestigious university.
The Incident

The victim was defrauded of the aforementioned sum by an unregistered agent under the guise of a "roommate-option" transaction. Following the payment, the student was not only denied access to the room but was also forcefully ordered to vacate the premises.
SUG Intervention and Recovery

Upon receiving the report, the SUG President and his team took immediate and decisive action:

Rapid Response: The team mobilized to the lodge, engaging the caretaker and landlord to secure a 7-day grace period for the student, ensuring she was not left stranded.

The Manhunt: A rigorous investigation led to the apprehension of the primary suspect. Through tactical interrogation, two other illegal agents involved in the operation were exposed and tracked down.

Full Restitution: The entire extorted sum of ₦240,000 was forcefully recovered and has been returned to the student. We are pleased to announce that she has since secured alternative, legitimate accommodation.

The Office of the PRO wishes to remind all students that while the Union remains your shield, personal vigilance is the first line of defense.
Verified Dealings Only: Students are strictly warned to engage only with agents who possess a valid, SUG-issued identification card.
Liability: Any student who chooses to patronize unregistered agents does so at their own peril. The Union may not be able to intervene in cases where students willfully disregard these safety protocols.
The Intelligence Factor: Being a student is synonymous with being informed. Do not let desperation cloud your judgment; demand credentials before any financial commitment.
Final Warning to Fraudsters

To the illegal agents still operating within the Ifite axis: consider this your final notice. The SUG is committed to a relentless crackdown on all forms of student exploitation. We will continue to identify, apprehend, and hand over criminal elements to the appropriate authorities.
