The FBI is reportedly looking for AI that could flag people as potential dangers before they commit an offence.

Procurement documents suggest the agency wants technology capable of analysing huge government datasets, finding hidden patterns and building predictive models to identify possible security risks.

The system would reportedly be used by the FBI’s Screening Center, which helps security watchlists.

Supporters may argue that AI could help investigators connect information faster and detect threats that humans might miss.

But critics say it sounds dangerously close to “pre-crime,” where people are treated as suspicious not because of something they have done, but because an algorithm predicts what they might do.

Predictive systems can also inherit bias from the data used to train them, potentially flagging innocent people based on their location, associations or behaviour.

The technology is reportedly still at the procurement stage, and there is no evidence that anyone is currently being arrested solely because an AI predicts future wrongdoing.

But the idea raises a serious question:

Should the government be allowed to place someone under suspicion for a crime that has not happened?

The Deep Web — the private part of the internet that requires login or permission, like your email, bank app, school portal, company portal, hospital records, and cloud storage.

The Dark Web — the hidden part of the internet, often accessed with special tools, where anonymity is common and many illegal cyber activities can happen.

The Deep Web is not automatically bad. In fact, we use it every day when we log into our private accounts.

But if attackers gain access to private systems, stolen data can end up being sold or misused for scams, fraud, identity theft, blackmail, and reputation damage.

Protect your accounts.
Use strong passwords.
Turn on two-factor authentication.
Don’t share sensitive information carelessly.
Organizations must protect customer and staff data.

It can enter through fake apps, suspicious links, infected flash drives, email attachments, cracked software, and random downloads.

In Nigeria and across Africa, many people expose themselves by downloading apps from WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, unknown websites, and fake “free premium” links.

For businesses, one infected laptop can expose company files, customer data, invoices, staff emails, and financial records.

Not every app is safe.
Not every attachment is harmless.

The QR Code You Just Scanned Could Be Fake. 📱⚠️

QR codes have made life easier.

Pay for groceries.

Order food.

View a restaurant menu.

Join a Wi-Fi network.

Download an app.

They're everywhere.

And that's exactly why cybercriminals are starting to abuse them.

Imagine walking into a coffee shop and seeing a QR code on the table.

You scan it without thinking.

Instead of taking you to the menu...

It takes you to a fake website that looks identical to the real one.

You enter your login details.

A few minutes later, your account has been compromised.

The scary part?

The QR code itself doesn't tell you where it's taking you.

That's why it's important to slow down before you scan.

Here are a few simple habits that can protect you:

✅ Check if the QR code looks like a sticker placed over another one

✅ Read the URL preview before opening it

✅ Never enter passwords or banking details unless you're sure the website is legitimate

✅ If something feels unusual, visit the website directly instead

Technology isn't the problem.

Blind trust is.

Remember:

A QR code is just another link.

And just because it's printed on paper doesn't mean it's safe.

In cybersecurity, convenience should never replace caution.
