Beyond AI Exposure: What Children Across Africa Learnt at the FaveyCee Smart Kids AI Training
AI is becoming part of how we learn, work, create and solve problems. For children growing up in this environment, the question is not whether they will encounter AI, but whether they will know how to use it thoughtfully, creatively and responsibly.
This thinking shaped the FaveyCee Smart Kids AI Training, a free virtual summer programme for children aged 6–16, with 105 children participating.
At FaveyCee Tech Tribe, we designed the programme to move beyond simply introducing AI tools. We wanted children to understand AI, create with it, question its outputs and use it to strengthen learning.
AI Fundamentals & Generative AI — understanding AI, its applications and its growing role in education and work.
Prompt Engineering & AI Assistants — practical use of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI tools to ask better questions and work with AI effectively.
AI Creativity & Content Creation — exploring image generation, graphic design, photography, video, storytelling and commercial content.
AI for Learning, Research & Problem-Solving — using AI to explain concepts, research, analyse and solve problems without replacing the learner’s own thinking. In practical mathematics sessions, children were guided to understand the steps and reasoning rather than simply copy answers.
AI Safety, Ethics & Digital Citizenship — learning responsible AI use, verification, privacy and human judgement.
AI, Coding, Entrepreneurship & Innovation — applying AI to practical projects, including building commercial and portfolio websites, completing assignments and presenting their work.
The economic opportunity
Skills in graphic design, video editing, photography, content creation, web development, research and AI-assisted problem-solving can eventually become services, freelance work, businesses and innovations.
We are especially proud of our Founder & CEO, Favour Ikebuaku, for conceiving, organising, coordinating and sponsoring this free initiative. We also appreciate our entire team
