WHO HAS THE PROBLEM?

Knowing that a problem exists is not enough.

You need to know who experiences it, how often it happens and how they currently deal with it.

The same problem can affect different people in very different ways.

Before building a product, understand the people you are building it for.

A GOOD PRODUCT STARTS WITH A REAL PROBLEM

A product should solve a problem that people actually have.

Before building, it is worth asking:

What is the problem?
Who has it?
How are they solving it now?
What is missing?

Good products begin with understanding the problem, not simply having an idea.

CORROBORATION MATTERS

Finding a claim in one source does not make it true. We check whether independent sources support the same information and whether they can be traced to the same original claim.

Where sources disagree, that difference matters too.

A SOURCE IS NOT NECESSARILY RELIABLE

A source can be genuine and still be wrong. It can also be accurate on one subject and unreliable on another.

Before relying on information, consider who produced it, how the information was obtained, what evidence supports it and whether independent sources confirm it.

INFORMATION IS NOT EVIDENCE

A claim can be widely shared and still be wrong. The number of people repeating something does not establish that it is true.

Before accepting a claim, ask where it came from, what evidence supports it, whether the source can be verified and what other reliable sources say.

We look for connections, inconsistencies, changes and patterns that may not be apparent from individual sources.

We assess what the available information supports, what remains uncertain and what requires closer examination.

There is no shortage of information.

The difficulty is knowing what matters, what can be relied upon and what the information tells us.

FOZILL was established to examine information more closely, investigate questions, assess evidence and provide analysis that brings greater clarity to situations that require informed judgement.

We are particularly interested in information that is publicly available but dispersed across different sources, difficult to interpret or easy to overlook.

This is the basis of our work.
