𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐅𝐎 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲’𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.

I read a post last week from a CFO that lament that Finance "should not be a function that fills in form". This lamentation comes from the fact that finance gets emailed constantly from other department requesting for numbers. One sentence email, "𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒏𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅, 𝑼𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕."

And I can't help but wonder if this is pure annoyance or it is a deep structural issues. From where I am standing, I can identify two major rot points:

1️⃣ Data Blindness: The team literally cannot see the metrics they are suppose to manage.
2️⃣ The Trust Deficit: Even if they have reports, they don't believe it. They still wait for Finance to "𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔" the data before using it.

But what this "email for data" culture really does to your organization? It turns your most expansive and strategic assets into a company internal helpdesk.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 𝐀𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡.

ERP like NetSuite stops the email chain. When everyone, from sales to operation, to finance look at the same information real-time, segmented clearly by the roles they are designated, conversation began to shift. Debate about which version of the number is correct cease, and the discussion about how to move those number can finally began.

𝐈𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂-𝐒𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞?

Imagine being a C-Suite, and you spend your morning, and probably evening clicking "Approve" on hundreds of routine Purchase Order just to keep the warehouse and factory moving.

One of the main issues I see is that most management are terrified of "letting go". Worried that things goes out of hand if they do not personally see orders going out. Being a retailer, you are probably rejoicing. Ringgit is one of the best performing currencies in Asia at the moment, hovering around 3.88-3.90 mark. On paper, you should be celebrating. Importation cost has dropped, hence you are making a handsome profit.

But you may actually be losing market share in the process. 𝕎𝕙𝕪?

While your cost is dropping, your retail prices remain static. Your competitors, who are more agile, had already adjusted their pricing downward to capture the "cost conscious" consumer.

You on the other hand, are still relying on monthly spreadsheet to manage margins. By the time you finalized the price, you had become the "expensive" option in the market. The strong currency had essentially trapped you because you couldn't pivot fast enough.

The latest release of NetSuite 2026.1 Release, we look at how we can use the strengthening Ringgit as a weapon, not a weight.

We can now set rules to protect the market position. As the Ringgit strengthen and the landed cost dropped, NetSuite automatically adjust the selling price in order to stay competitive, while locking in the desired margin. No more waiting for month end spreadsheet for decision.

Currency volatility works both ways. If your pricing isn't as fast as the Bank Negara daily rate, you are practically leaving money and customers on the table. And when the Ringgit weaken, are you still making enough margin to keep the lights on?

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when asked about the benefits of an ERP like NetSuite?

The usual answers will be:
🌟 Reduce inventory carry,
🌟 Faster month end close,
🌟 and all the usual mambo jumbo that is often cited to get buy in.

And yes, while ERP implementation does provide the above tangible benefits, the real transformation lies in the invisible..

In my opinion, the best result that happens after an implementation is the beginning of structure and disciplines. It changes an organization from operating using jungle rules to one of structured governance.

1./ The end of "Hero Culture"
Before an ERP, things get done primarily because "Ali knows how to fix it", "Muthu remembers the customer orders", or "Ah Hock know how much money is left in the bank". This is not a process, its practically a prayer. God forbids that the individual doesn't turn this into a ransom.
ERP enforces standardized workflow, and that makes business resilient. The "Hero" shift from the individual to the process.

2./ Forced Data Integrity
Standardized process forces everyone to perform the tasks in a predictable and timely manner. This creates a Culture of Truth. When this culture is established, and everyone begin to trust the data, you will begin to see a fundamental shift in analytics behaviors. Meetings can now move beyond questioning which or who has the right numbers, and start being about how to fix the problem.

3./ Cross Departmental Empathy
In most companies that run on siloed, Sales do not care about Procurement. Procurement do not care about warehouse. This often results in Sales committing orders which Procurement may not be able to deliver, or Procurement stuffing the warehouses to the brim. With an ERP, Sales see how a "special request" triggers an operational meltdown in the warehouse or production. It forces connectivity. It forces you to understand you are not a collections of departments fending off each others, but a single continuous value chain.

4./ Strategic Guardrails
And finally, what I deemed most important is that a good ERP provides you the discipline to say "No". If a customer do not pass the credit check, if the vendor isn't approved, if the shipment is constantly late or defective, the system start flagging and stopping them. This provides an automated discipline that often get bypassed by human.

In conclusion:
A good ERP implementations doesn't just manages your resources. It manages your company habits. It provides clarity where decision used to be on the whim on who shout the loudest. The software is the tools, but "𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆" is the price. As the famous quote says:

Ready for NetSuite 2026.1?

Some insights from NetSuite 2026.1 release notes. While "AI" buzz is the order of the day, I want to just pick a few of the features which have direct impact on the business daily operations.

These are what I think you will find most value:
1. Intelligent Close Manager:
2. Payment Date Prediction
3. Vendor Consigned Inventory
4. Flexible Banking Schedules
5. Standardized Journal Lines for updates/integrations

There is also a critical infrastructure update where 2FA becomes mandatory for roles with multiple simultaneous sessions.

These were of course just a small subsets of the functionality that will be released in 2026.1.
