I read a post last week from a CFO that lament that Finance "should not be a function that fills in form". This lamentation comes from the fact that finance gets emailed constantly from other department requesting for numbers. One sentence email, "๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
, ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐."
And I can't help but wonder if this is pure annoyance or it is a deep structural issues. From where I am standing, I can identify two major rot points:
1๏ธโฃ Data Blindness: The team literally cannot see the metrics they are suppose to manage.
2๏ธโฃ The Trust Deficit: Even if they have reports, they don't believe it. They still wait for Finance to "๐๐๐๐๐" the data before using it.
But what this "email for data" culture really does to your organization? It turns your most expansive and strategic assets into a company internal helpdesk.

When everyone, from sales to operation, to finance look at the same information real-time, segmented clearly by the roles they are designated, conversation began to shift.
