Universiti Malaya, Fintech Malaysia Association and Baidu signing ceremony to establish Malaysia's first METAVERSE lab.

In an exciting development in the realm of technology and education, Universiti Malaya, represented by Professor Dr. Loo Chu Kiong and Dr. Mas Sahidayana, along with the Fintech Malaysia Association (FMA) chaired by Dato' James, embarked on a formal visit to Baidu, China. Over the course of three days, discussions primarily focused on the establishment of Malaysia's first METAVERSE lab, which will be housed in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) at Universiti Malaya. This cutting-edge lab aims to promote metaverse teaching and research, utilizing the advanced capabilities of the Baidu Metaverse platform.

The establishment of the METAVERSE lab is a result of the collaborative efforts between Universiti Malaya, the Fintech Malaysia Association, and Baidu Netcom Science Technology Co. Ltd. The lab will serve as a hub for innovative programs and activities, with a specific focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Universiti Malaya STEM Centre will take the lead in coordinating the collaborative initiatives, fostering a dynamic environment for teaching and research within the metaverse realm.

The Fintech Malaysia Association (FMA) giving a talk about metaverse technology, specifically virtual reality (VR) use for education in the Faculty of Creative Multimedia at Multimedia University, demonstrates the growing interest and potential of immersive technologies in the field of education.

The Fintech Malaysia Association is an organization focused on promoting and supporting the development of financial technology in Malaysia. However, it's not uncommon for such associations to explore and discuss emerging technologies beyond the scope of their main focus. In this case, the FMA is discussing the utilization of metaverse technology in education, particularly VR.

The metaverse refers to a collective virtual shared space that encompasses multiple virtual worlds and augmented reality experiences. It allows users to interact with a computer-generated environment and other users in real-time. Virtual reality is a technology that immerses users in a simulated three-dimensional environment, enabling them to experience and interact with a virtual world.
