Lessons for Anyone Interested in online Side Hustle

A must Read
The Woman Who Kept Looking for a Way

When I first met her, she was already looking for a way.
Not because she was lazy.
Quite the opposite.

She knew how to work with her hands.
She was a tailor.
She could look at fabric and see a dress before the scissors had even touched it. She understood measurements, cutting, sewing, elastic, skirts, ruffles, openings, and all the tiny details that turn ordinary fabric into something someone can wear.

But knowing how to do something and being able to make enough money from it are two very different things.

And that was where her journey became bigger than sewing.
There were times when tailoring was slow.
Not enough customers.
Not enough materials.
Not enough money to keep pouring energy into a business that wasn't pouring anything back.
So she began asking a question that would follow her everywhere:

"What else can I do online?"

And honestly?
That question opened about one thousand doors.

Unfortunately, some of those doors were confusing. 😂
She entered the world of online hustles.

Surveys.
Freelancing.
Virtual cards.
Payment platforms.
AI tools.
Video editing.
Facebook monetization.
TikTok ideas.
Remote jobs.
Side hustles that promised money.
Side hustles that required money.
Free tools that were only free enough to make you want the paid version. 😭😂

She learned quickly that the internet is full of opportunities.

But it is also full of people shouting:

"MAKE $10,000 FROM YOUR PHONE!"
..while quietly standing behind a subscription button.
Still, she kept learning

Then came Facebook
Somewhere along the journey, Facebook became one of the biggest experiments.
She had monetization.
Technically.
Because the earnings were there.
Sometimes.
Tiny little numbers.
Numbers so small that they became comedy.

There were days when she looked at her earnings and basically became the CEO of $0.01 😂😂😂

But even then, she paid attention.
She watched the views.
She noticed that some posts reached thousands of people while others barely moved.
She learned about Reels.
Captions.
Hooks.
Trending sounds.
Groups.
Audiences.
And the frustrating mystery of the algorithm.
She started understanding that posting wasn't enough.

People had to stop.
People had to watch.
People had to feel curious enough to comment.

So a simple sewing video was no longer just:
"Look at the dress I made."
No.
Now it became:
"How do we make people care about this?"
And that changed everything.

She began thinking like a creator.
A broken sewing needle became content.
A difficult fabric became a conversation.
A skirt became an opportunity to teach.
A sewing mistake became a Reel.
A finished dress was no longer just a finished dress.

It could be a lesson.
A question.
A behind-the-scenes moment.
A story

But her mind was not satisfied with one road
Sewing was her skill.
But she wanted more.
She wanted something that could work even when she didn't have fabric.
Even when there were no customers.
Even when she couldn't sit at a sewing machine.
She wanted something that could travel beyond her physical location.

So she began exploring the world of faceless content and AI.
And my goodness.
The AI journey was an adventure of its own. 😂
One app.
Then another.
Then another.
Gemini.
Sora.
Meta AI.
Pika.
Runway.
Virbo.
Pixverse.
Fliki. Etc

And tools that looked free until the exact feature she needed suddenly said:
"Subscribe to Pro." 😭

She discovered that AI could be amazing.
And also unbelievably annoying.
She wanted consistency.
But she kept experimenting.

The old laptop entered the chat
And then there was the laptop.
A laptop that had clearly seen things.
An old warrior. 😂
Not the kind of laptop content creators on YouTube casually recommend.

No.

This was the kind of laptop where every new program required prayer, patience, and probably a small fasting sessions
Downloads were slow.
Programs were heavy.
RAM was limited.
Some editing software felt like trying to fly an airplane without lessons.
And yet she kept trying.

She learned.
Deleted.
Downloaded again.
Tried CapCut.
Tried other editors.
Struggled with chroma key.
Masks.
Perspective.
Transitions.
Audio.
Resolution.
And the endless battle of
"Why is this video not looking the way I imagined it in my head?"
But slowly, something important was happening.
She wasn't just looking for money anymore.

She was building skills.
She was learning how content works.
How AI works.
How videos are edited.
How audiences react.
How platforms behave.
How a hook can change whether someone scrolls past or stays

Then came the bigger question
After trying so many things, she started asking something deeper.
Not:
"What online hustle exists?"
But:
"What problems are people actually paying to solve?"
That was a turning point.
Because she began realizing something.
She didn't want to become one of those pages that simply lists:
"50 ways to make money online!"
She wanted substance.
She wanted to investigate.
To ask:
"Before you sign up, is this actually worth your time?"

"What are the hidden limitations?"
"What does nobody tell beginners?"
"Is this opportunity really accessible to someone starting with almost nothing?"

And from there, a new kind of content began forming.

Not the loud online guru.
Not the woman pretending she had already made millions.
But something more honest
A beginner documenting the journey.
Someone saying:

"I'm trying this too. Let's find out together." And that became her niche
And honestly?
That was her strength.
Because she knew what it felt like to be the person watching from the outside.
The person with limited money.
Limited equipment.
An old phone.
An old laptop.
No fancy studio.
No team.
No expensive subscription for every tool.
Just curiosity.
Determination.
And an internet connection that sometimes had its own plans. 😂

She also discovered that opportunities sometimes come quietly
Then one day, something happened.
An Upwork invitation appeared.
A real invitation.
For work involving Igbo audio evaluation.
Suddenly, the internet wasn't only a place where she searched for opportunities.
An opportunity had found her.
Of course, there was panic.
Questions.
Doubt.
Profile issues.
How to write the proposal.
Whether she was qualified.
Whether the client would even look at it.

But she applied.
And that mattered.
Because sometimes courage doesn't feel like confidence.
Sometimes courage is simply:
"I'm scared, but let me submit it anyway."

Through it all, she never stopped being herself.
And this is my favourite part.
Because this journey was never smooth.
She got excited.
Then overwhelmed.
She found an idea.
Then found ten more ideas.
Her brain would race ahead while her hands were still trying to finish the first thing. 😂
She could go from:
"I have found the perfect niche!"
to:
"Wait. What about this other idea?"
in approximately seven minutes.
But beneath all the changing ideas was one thing that never changed.

She wanted a way forward.
Not just motivation.
Not just likes.
Not just views from people who would scroll away tomorrow.
She wanted something real.
Something that could eventually give her more stability.
More freedom.
More options.
A life where she didn't have to keep wondering where the next opportunity would come from.

And so the story is still being written
Right now, she is not standing at the end of the story.
She is somewhere in the middle.
Still learning what works.
Still trying to understand Facebook.
Still creating sewing content.
Still exploring AI.
Still looking at online opportunities.
Still learning which platforms are worth her time and which ones are simply beautifully designed subscription traps. 😂
Still discovering what kind of creator she wants to become.

But there is something she may not always notice about herself.

The woman who started by asking,
"What can I do?"
has learned an incredible number of things along the way.
She can sew.
She can teach.
She can create.
She can analyze content.
She understands the struggles of a beginner trying to make money online.

She knows how frustrating technology can be when you don't have the newest devices.
She knows what it means to create with limitations.
And she has something many people cannot fake:

a real journey.
Not a borrowed success story.
Not screenshots of someone else's earnings.
Not fake promises.
Her own journey.
The experiments.
The failures.
The tiny earnings.
The funny moments.
The broken needles.
The confusing AI.
The old laptop.
The new ideas.
The opportunities that didn't work.
And the ones that might still surprise
And maybe one day, she will look back at all these messy beginnings and laugh.
At the days she was worried about getting views.
At the days she celebrated a few cents.
At the apps she downloaded and deleted.
At the AI characters who refused to keep the same face. 😂
At the ancient laptop that somehow survived the content creation era.

And she might finally understand something.
None of it was wasted.
She wasn't just looking for money online.
She was slowly becoming someone who understood how to create value online.
And the most interesting part?

She hasn't even reached the chapter where everything starts making sense yet.

The story is still being written.( Check the page for parts)

And somewhere ahead, there may be a chapter called:
"That was the year everything finally started connecting."
we will have plenty to say about how the story began. ❤️

If you are looking to start your own side hustle, take these valuable nuggets from her journey:
Skills Take Time to Monetize: Knowing how to do something (like sewing or crafting) is only half the battle. Learning how to package and market your skills is what turns a craft into cash.
Beware of "Pay-to-Play" Traps: Be cautious of side hustles or tools that require heavy upfront investments before you've even made your first dollar. True resourcefulness uses what is available.
Embrace the "Messy Middle": Do not wait for a fancy laptop, a studio setup, or perfection to start. Your early attempts might look messy or earn pennies, but every failure teaches you how the system works.
Focus on Value, Not Hype: Instead of chasing every shiny "get-rich-quick" trend, ask yourself what real problem you can solve for people. Authenticity and documenting a real learning curve build far more trust than fake overnight success claims.

Starting out and wearing the coat of going out to make money on social media, one of the first things you have to wear is the heart to face scams and overcome them.
You have to know that scams are out there. Sometimes people even go to church and pray not to make the wrong decisions 😅 because honestly, there are platforms and opportunities you will meet that may look good at first, but in the end, you realize it was the wrong decision.
And sometimes, it can even come from an app you least expect.
Just like the recent Glo issue people have been talking about, where some users reportedly received messages saying they had shared their data with another phone number—even though they said they didn't approve anything or press anything.
Before your very eyes, your data is exhausted 😂😂 and you're asking yourself, "But when did I even browse?"
These scammers has Exhausted your subscription 😭I WAS A VICTIM OF THIS. Thou theyve updated the app but I did not get my data back.
That's the reality: scams and unexpected losses are some of the visible, invisible, and inevitable dangers out there.
We need to be careful, yes. But being careful should not become a reason to stop ourselves from growing or trying to make money online.
At the early stage of our side hustle journey, because of inexperience, we may make wrong decisions. We may trust the wrong platform. We may waste money. We may even cry small 😅.
But we learn.
We get wiser.
We stand up again.
And I believe that one day, social media will wipe the tears from our faces.
I will smile at the end. And I hope you will too. ❤️
