Addressing the burgeoning issue of electronic waste (e-waste)Proposal
1. Introduction:
RAVANTECH proposes an initiative aimed at addressing the burgeoning issue of electronic waste (e-waste) while simultaneously fostering skill development and economic empowerment. This project focuses on collecting used computers and laptops from society and companies, ensuring data security for donors, and providing vocational training in computer repair, data backup, and installation of open-source operating systems.
2. Objectives:
Collect used computers and laptops from society and companies to mitigate e-waste accumulation.
Ensure the security and confidentiality of donors' data by providing data backup services and disposing of data drives responsibly.
Provide vocational training to students in computer repair, data backup, and installation of the open-source operating system, RAVANOS.
Empower students with essential skills for future employment opportunities and entrepreneurship.
Foster economic sustainability by sharing revenue generated from membership fees with students for their basic needs, future training, and higher education support.
Promote inclusivity by welcoming students of all nationalities and conducting training in both English and Sinhala languages.
3. Implementation Plan:
E-Waste Collection: Collaborate with society and companies to collect used computers and laptops. Implement secure data backup procedures to protect donors' data privacy.
Vocational Training: Partner with GIZ to provide comprehensive vocational training in computer repair, data backup, and installation of RAVANOS. Training will include theoretical and practical components.
Membership Program: Offer membership to vocational training students, providing access to resources, support, and revenue-sharing opportunities. Allocate 30% of revenue from membership fees towards students' basic needs, future training, and higher education support.
Language Inclusivity: Ensure training materials and sessions are available in both English and Sinhala to accommodate students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Sustainability Measures: Implement sustainable practices in e-waste disposal and resource management to minimize environmental impact. Continuously evaluate and improve the program to adapt to changing needs and technologies.
4. Expected Outcomes:
Reduction in e-waste accumulation through responsible disposal and recycling practices.
Empowerment of vocational training students with essential skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
Economic sustainability for students through revenue-sharing and support for basic needs and higher education.
Promotion of inclusivity and diversity in skill development programs.
5. Budget:
The budget will include expenses for e-waste collection, training facilities, materials, instructor fees, administrative costs, and revenue-sharing with students.
Funding sources may include grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, and membership fees.
6. Conclusion:
The upscaling of e-waste collection coupled with vocational training offers a holistic solution to environmental and socio-economic challenges. RAVANTECH is committed to creating a sustainable model that not only addresses e-waste but also empowers individuals for a brighter future. Through collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, we aim to make a meaningful impact on both local communities and the environment.
