Meta is preparing to cut around 8,000 jobs starting May 20, wiping out roughly 10 percent of its workforce in one of the company’s biggest layoffs yet. The cuts come even though Meta made more than $60 billion in profit last year and brought in over $200 billion in revenue.

Reports say Mark Zuckerberg is restructuring the company around artificial intelligence, with more layoffs expected later in 2026. Meta employed nearly 79,000 people at the end of 2026, meaning thousands of workers could soon be replaced as the company shifts more money into AI, automation, and data centers.
