The Story of Kelvin, a Victim of a Forex Scam💔
My name is Kelvin Mwangi.
I’m 25.
And this is the story of how I lost KSh. 43,000 chasing a dream that wasn’t mine.
It started with a DM.
“Hey bro, I see you love hustling and you're into money moves. Check out what I’m doing — Forex changed my life!”
The message came from a guy named Dennis_KingFX. I didn’t know him, but we had six mutual friends, all flashy campus boys who post champagne and power quotes. 🍾💬
He posted screenshots daily:
“$1,200 made in 3 hours”
“Just withdrew KSh. 90K, God is good!”
“Team winning, join the movement!”
I was jobless, tired of applying for internships that didn’t even respond with rejection emails. So when Dennis offered to “mentor” me and “double my money in 7 days,” my brain didn’t ask questions. My hunger did the talking.
He sent me a poster:
> "ELITE FX ACADEMY
Learn, Earn, Live Large
KSh. 5,000 joining fee
KSh. 20,000 starter capital
Withdrawals every Friday
100% guaranteed returns"
That “100%” should’ve been my red flag. But at the time?
It was a green light. 🚦
I borrowed KSh. 10K from my elder sister, sold my Huawei Y9, and threw in my last HELB balance — just to raise the money. I sent the cash via M-Pesa. Dennis even sent me a receipt and added me to a WhatsApp group called “FX Royals KE 🔥💸.”
The group was active. Too active.
People were typing things like:
“I just made 15K while eating chapo!”
“Blessed to be in this family!”
“Dennis you’re the 🐐!”
But something felt... odd. Everyone’s messages looked the same. Like they were copy-pasted.
Then came Monday. Dennis said the “trades had begun” and our returns would start showing by Wednesday. I waited.
On Wednesday, he posted a blurry screenshot of “profits” — $540 made in 3 days.
I texted him: “How much is mine bro?”
He blue-ticked me.
Thursday: No update.
Friday: The WhatsApp group disappeared. Gone. Not even archived — DELETED.
His Instagram? Deactivated.
His number? “Switched off.”
I felt cold. Real cold.
I remember sitting outside Kencom, staring at people rushing to matatus, wondering how I’d explain this to my sister.
I’d been played.
The screenshots were fake. The testimonials were fake. The mentorship was fake.
Only the pain was real. 💔
I spent the next two months broke, jobless, and embarrassed. Even now, I flinch when someone says “forex.” Because for me, it’s not a market. It’s a wound.
Lesson?
If someone promises you quick money, they’re making money — from YOU.
Forex is not evil. But people are.
And if you don’t understand what you’re putting money into, then you're not investing. You're donating to thieves in suits.
Don’t be like me.
Don't let desperation silence your wisdom.
