Our name borrows from the Swahili word for essence, genesis, the source of something. It stands for the truth or fundamental nature of a person or object.

In Tabaka, western Kenya, soapstone carving has been practised for generations, with skills passed down through families and communities.

We work with a Fair Trade network of independent producers ans, creating ongoing work and a reliable source of income for the craftspeople we partner with and their families.

Each of our soapstone pieces is individually carved by hand, before being sanded and polished to bring out the natural character of the stone.
