Sometimes a change of environment is all you need.

Today, we took our work outside ; fresh air, open space, and a different kind of focus. Still coding, still building, still pushing forward.

Behind every update on EduPoa is a team putting in consistent effort, testing ideas, and improving step by step.

Building in the Hours

There’s a part of that rarely makes it into the spotlight: the quiet hours.
The moments when the world is asleep, notifications are silent, and you’re left with your thoughts… and your work.
Those hours have shaped me more than any meeting ever has. 💡

I’ve come to realize that most people only interact with the version of your work. They see the polished interface, the smooth onboarding, the intuitive dashboards. They see the product but not the process. They don’t see the late nights spent , , , and . They don’t see the internal debates, the rewrites, the frustrations, the breakthroughs.

But as a and especially in those quiet hours have become my classroom.

I still love being hands-on with the product, even as a . There’s something grounding about it. Something honest. It reminds me why exists in the first place: to solve real problems in real schools with real people depending on it. When I’m deep in the work, I’m not thinking about titles, investor decks, or the buzzwords we like to attach to or . I’m thinking about the teacher who needs one less process to stress about. The school that needs a simpler, more reliable system. The learner who depends on a structure that won’t fail them.

It’s in those moments that I remember: vision means nothing without ex*****on.
And ex*****on requires showing up consistently, especially when no one is watching. 🤔

Being a founder isn’t just about big decisions in boardrooms. Sometimes, real leadership looks like up your sleeves and sitting with the problem. It looks like saying, “Let me understand this from the inside,” instead of delegating your way out of discomfort. It looks like taking responsibility not just for the outcomes, but for the process that leads to them.

And maybe that’s the part people don’t talk about enough.
The quiet hours are not glamorous.
They don’t trend.
They don’t earn applause.

But they build something far more important: momentum.

Momentum is what separates ideas from products.
Products from companies.
Companies from impact. 🎓

As founders, we often chase motivation, but I’ve learned it’s momentum those small, consistent actions that compound into real growth. And every time I sit down to build, to refine, to debug, I’m reminded that I’m still learning, still growing, and still obsessed with solving real problems.

So here’s my takeaway:
Don’t underestimate the power of the work that no one sees.
That’s where the future of your product and your leadership is shaped.

What “quiet hour” moments in your journey have taught you the most? 🚀

Senior School Teachers for the Cohort!
For Kenyan teachers who have perfected instruction under the 8-4-4 curriculum, a significant mindset shift is required as the first cohort under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBE) approaches Senior School (Grade 10).

The Fundamental Difference:
The #8-4-4 system focused heavily on students memorizing facts. In stark contrast, requires them to apply that knowledge. This means moving away from asking, "What do you know?" to asking, "What can you do?"

Key Shift Examples:
• Instead of just having a math student memorize "Area = Length × Width," the CBE framework expects them to that knowledge, such as by designing a garden layout for their school (real-world problem solving).
• Competency is defined as the combination of Knowledge + Skills + Application.

Preparing for the Transition:
The new CBE structure, set to fully roll out the transition in 2026, involves: 2 years pre-primary, 6 years primary, 3 years junior school, 3 years senior school, and 3 years tertiary education.

Crucially, the days of high-stakes exams will be gone. Your future Grade 10 students will expect continuous feedback and collaborative learning, not just exam cramming.

Supporting the Educator:
Given these changes, tracking competencies efficiently is paramount. Tools are becoming essential to help teachers take their time back and focus on teaching, rather than spending excessive time manually tracking every competency. Systems like ™ are designed to support this reform, offering features like Formative and summative assessments, a parent portal, and bulk report generation.

Are you prepared to embrace this fundamental change and equip your Grade 9 students for their entry into Senior School?

"Should I my child into ?"

This is the #1 question I hear from Kenyan parents navigating the new system.

Here's the truth many don't realize:

A struggling student will perform worse than an excellent Social Sciences or Arts student. Success isn't about the pathway name – it's about alignment with natural talents and interests.

🎓 At the end of Grade 9, every Kenyan student now faces a pivotal choice:
• STEM Pathway
• Social Sciences Pathway
• Arts & Sports Pathway

Each pathway offers unique opportunities. Each leads to fulfilling careers. Each deserves equal respect.

The challenge? Most families don't have clear information about:
✓ What each pathway actually entails
✓ How the 4-Pillar Assessment works
✓ Which careers each pathway opens
✓ How to support their child's decision

I've just published a comprehensive guide that answers all these questions and more.

📚 Inside you'll find:
• Detailed breakdown of all 3 pathways
• Career opportunities for each track
• Common misconceptions debunked
• Practical guidance for parents
• School selection tips
• Timeline for the selection process

Whether you're a parent, educator, or student – this guide will help you make informed decisions about Kenya's education future.

Building in has taught me that the best product work is invisible. Teachers don't want flashy features; they want tools that get out of their way. Students don't care about your tech stack; they care if the lesson loads before they lose focus.

The hard part isn't coding. It's a restraint. Knowing what not to build. Listening more than you pitch. Watching real people use your product and feeling the friction they won't tell you about.
That's where real lives, not in the feature list, but in the moments you give back to people who don't have time to waste.

If you're building something, ask yourself: Does this save time, or does it just look impressive? Does it solve a real problem, or does it solve my problem?
The difference matters. 🎓

What's one thing in your product (or your work) that could disappear tomorrow and nobody would miss it?

Why Competency Tracking is Our

I've been diving deep into Kenya’s , and what I’m seeing is both inspiring and worrying. Inspiring because the design is brilliant, 7 core competencies that truly matter:

✅Communication and Collaboration
✅Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
✅Creativity and Imagination
✅Citizenship, Digital Literacy
✅Learning to Learn
✅Self-efficacy.

Worrying because the way we’re tracking them in most schools is stuck in the past. 🤔

Here’s the key insight that many miss: each is built with and -strands that align to these . So when a learner is assessed on , the corresponding competencies should be tracked too. That creates a very real matrix across competencies × subjects × outcomes—exactly how is supposed to work.

But here’s where it breaks down in practice. Most schools still rely on -based tracking. That means teachers are manually collecting and analyzing data across 7 competencies for every learner, in multiple subjects, with each competency tied to several sub-strands. It’s not just “extra work.” It’s a system that almost guarantees , , and lost insight. Teachers end up in paperwork instead of focusing on learning. Feedback comes late. Records go missing. And the administrative burden becomes unsustainable. 😓

The irony? Literacy is one of the core competencies, yet the tracking of those very competencies is mostly not digital. That disconnect hurts both teachers and learners.

This is exactly why we built . When a teacher an outcome, automatically links it to the right competencies behind the scenes no extra steps. The result is consistent, objective tracking with real-time visibility into each learner’s growth. Teachers time for teaching. Parents and learners get timely, clear insights. Leaders get reliable reports that inform decisions. That’s what should feel like: invisible, supportive, and effective. 🚀

For me, this isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about . When tracking is manual and inconsistent, some learners inevitably slip through the cracks. When it’s systematic and digital, progress becomes visible and actionable for everyone. Kenya’s CBC vision is ambitious and right for the future. But without the right tools, we’re asking teachers to do the impossible with pen and paper.

So the question isn’t whether digital competency tracking is “nice to have.” It’s whether we can afford to keep doing it manually when the cost is lost time, delayed feedback, and missed growth. What’s your experience with CBC in your school? Are your teachers spending more time on data than on learning?

The Assessment Nightmare: Why Are in 📚

I had a conversation with a school teacher last week that left me speechless. She told me she spends #12+ hours every just on CBE recording , tracking substrand outcomes, and compiling learner profiles. That's more time on admin than actual .😢

But here's the kicker: she's not alone. This is the reality for thousands of teachers across who are trying to track the #7 that requires.

The 7 Core Competencies Every Teacher Must Track:
1. and - Can students express ideas clearly and work together?
2. and Solving - Do they analyze situations and find solutions?
3. and - Are they thinking outside the box?
4. Literacy - Can they use effectively?
5. to Learn - Are they developing self-directed learning skills?
6. -Efficacy - Do they believe in their own abilities?
7. - Are they developing social responsibility?

Here's the truth: Manual tracking is at scale. Teachers are in paperwork, making , data, and spending more time on admin than education. The is .

The /After :

❌ : Teachers buried under stacks of assessment forms, spending 12+ hours weekly on paperwork, making human errors, losing student progress data

✅ : tools that track competencies, generate real-time reports, create personalized learning paths, and give teachers their time back

This is exactly why we built . We're not just another tool we're solving the problem that's from working as intended. When teachers can focus on teaching instead of paperwork, that's when real learning happens.🥳

The of education isn't more . It's that makes competency tracking seamless, accurate, and meaningful.💪

What's your with assessment? Are you seeing teachers struggle with this manual tracking ? 🤔

Are Drowning in Tools They Can't Give to Students 😤

A teacher's recent post hit me right in the feels. They're frustrated, and honestly, I get it. Every development session now seems to be about AI, but here's the kicker: they can't actually put any of these AI tools into their ' hands. It's all about how teachers can use AI, not how students can learn with it.

This got me thinking about our approach to innovation here in . Are we getting so up in the AI that we're forgetting what really matters, student and meaningful experiences❓ 🤔

The teacher mentioned tools like , , and that students could actually use, interact with, and learn from. These weren't just fancy gadgets for teachers; they were platforms that put learning power directly into students' hands. That's the kind of innovation that moves the .

But here's what really struck me: "I've yet to be shown an actual AI tool meant to be used students." This is a crucial point. In our rush to , are we building tools that the rather than the ? Are we creating solutions that make teachers' jobs but don't necessarily make learning more engaging for kids❓

As an EdTech founder, I've learnt that the most powerful isn't the flashiest or most advanced, it's the technology that students can actually use to create, collaborate, and discover. It's the tools that put them in the driver's seat of their own learning journey. 🚀

The teacher's frustration isn't about being -technology. It's about wanting technology that serves a real purpose in the . They want tools that students can use to engage with content, not just tools that help teachers manage their . 😢

This is a -up call for all of us in the space. We need to ask ourselves: Are we building for teachers, or are we building for students? Are we creating tools that enhance learning, or are we just adding more to an already complex system?

The best educational should be to the learning process. Students are so engaged with the content that they forget they're using technology at all. That's when we know we've built something truly .

What's your take on the wave in ? Are we focusing too much on tools and not enough on experiences? 💡
