Driving Advanced Infrastructure Capabilities Across Africa!

The recently completed training on Module 5 on Advanced DNS Implementation in Nairobi had a great impact! This critical capacity-building initiative for Cohort 1 was made possible through a powerful partnership between Kenic TLD, AFRALTI, and ICANN.

Facilitated by TecFlax’s Technical Director, this rigorous 5-day training brought together 17 registry technical teams, system administrators, and ICT managers from 12 organizations across 8 African countries.

💡 Key Highlights & Impact:

1. Hands-on Mastery: Deep dive into BIND hardening, Anycast DNS, IPv6, and cloud integration using our unique Analogy → Technical Explanation → Action methodology.

2. Securing the Future: Deep engagement with DNSSEC fundamentals to strengthen back-end registry security across the continent.

3. Regional Collaboration: Participants organically laid the groundwork for a landmark initiative, exploring a shared Security Operations Center (SOC) for African ccTLDs to combat DDoS threats.

From Botswana to South Sudan, African tech leaders are returning home with concrete action plans to audit zone security and optimize performance.

You know that feeling when someone says something and it just stays with you?

That's what happened at the 6th CUK Innovation Week 2026.

Kenneth Mbuvi was the Chief Guest, and instead of giving a fancy speech, he sat us down with a story and a challenge. Why are so many great ideas from our universities never seeing the light of day? Why are we still waiting for permission to build?

Then he brought up open source — and here are some of the highlights:

• Most of us grow up using software we cannot see inside, cannot change, cannot truly own. That keeps us as users, not creators.
• opens the box. Students can inspect real enterprise systems, learn from them, tweak them, and build their own solutions.
• Kenneth called that ownership democratization for Africa. And honestly? That phrase hit hard.
• A university that adopts open source creates a live lab. Students stop memorizing for exams and start building for the real world.
• That's how employment creation happens — not by handing out CVs, but by having skills the market is starving for.

His closing question to all of us was simple. Are we going to keep being users of technology, or are we finally ready to become creators?
