How do you identify the right stakeholders for a contract farming scheme?

This was among the topics covered in Module 12 of the Africa Grains Online Program for Cohort 7, held on Thursday, 11th September 2025.

The session focused on Step 3: Development of a Contract Farming business plan, where participants explored practical solutions for both the start-up and long-term operation of schemes. Key discussions included defining clear roles for farmers and buyers, setting up fair agreements, ensuring reliable production, and managing risks.

Participants also reviewed tools such as the Will x Skill matrix, which helps assess stakeholders’ willingness and capacity—showing why the right partnerships are essential for scaling successful contract farming models.
This marks the 13th week of the 16-week program, reflecting how far Cohort 7 has come in developing business-ready skills that support sustainable grain trading and milling across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Africa Grains Online is a joint initiative by the African Milling School (Nairobi, Kenya), Bühler Group, and eProd Solutions, equipping millers and grain traders across Sub-Saharan Africa with practical, business-ready skills. To learn more about the program visit: www.africagrainsonline.net

We’re pleased to invite you to a webinar on data protection compliance for agribusinesses sourcing from agricultural producers. The free one-hour webinar will be held on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025 at 4:00 PM EAT | 3:00 PM SAST | 02:00 PM WAT.

As agribusinesses expand and adopt digital systems to manage their outgrower networks, handling farmer data securely and responsibly has become more important than ever. From registration forms to payment records and farm traceability, large volumes of personal and sensitive information are collected and processed every day.

This webinar will focus on the growing need for data protection compliance, especially within the context of emerging international and local regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

We’ll be joined by Edna Adala, Associate Partner and Company Secretary at Rödl & Partner in Association with hashtag , who will unpack the legal requirements for managing farmer data and explain what compliance looks like in practice for agribusinesses operating in Africa.

In this session, we’ll discuss:

What international frameworks like EUDR and CSRD mean for your data systems
The legal requirements for data protection compliance in Kenya
Practical steps to secure your farmer data and avoid penalties
Best practices when sharing farmer data with third parties like buyers, banks, or certifiers

We’ll wrap up with a 15-minute Q&A to address your specific concerns.

We are pleased to announce the launch of Market Compliance Online, a free of charge 15-module online training program designed to support coffee and cocoa traders, processors, and farmer-based organizations working to meet European Union market requirements.

While the course is open to participants across value chains, it is expected to have a significant impact on coffee producers, processors, and traders, particularly those preparing for export.

The training includes 15 modules covering topics such as EUDR, CSRD, due diligence, risk assessments, digital tools, OSHA, environmental monitoring, and coffee and cocoa sourcing, handling and processing. Participants will benefit from 15 1-hour webinar sessions, course materials, assignments, coaching and access to a professional network within the food processing industry. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion.

The Market Compliance Online is a joint initiative by the African Milling School, Nairobi, Kenya, a subsidiary of Bühler Group, and eProd Solutions Limited — organizations with extensive experience supporting agribusinesses across the continent. The course builds on their earlier collaboration through Africa Grains Online (AGO), an online training program launched during the COVID-19 pandemic that successfully trained over 700 professionals across Sub-Saharan Africa. Together, they create a growing network of millers, traders, and food processors dedicated to strengthening food systems and improving supply chains.

Registration is now open for Cohort 1 (English), starting July 7th, 2025.

Traceability often breaks down during collection and processing.

At a collection center, the produce from different farmers or groups is delivered at once. Farmers are impatient and want to go back to their farms, drivers are under time pressure. And buying agents are supposed to track each delivery from the farmers to ensure traceability, transparency and trust in the product delivered. Whether it is for Food Safety reasons, compliance purposes or quality concerns, that may have implications for payments.

Without data this is obviously impossible. This lack of traceability leads to rejected orders, failed audits, and lost income.

With the right tools, like eProd, agribusinesses can capture all relevant details efficiently at the collection point, manage batches consistently during processing, and ensure end-to-end traceability from the field to the final product.

Do you want to improve traceability in your agribusiness? eProd makes it possible to track produce from farm to fork, even offline in remote areas. Reach out at [email protected] or call +254 112 203 982.

Across Africa, many agribusinesses still face challenges like manual record-keeping, disconnected systems, and limited visibility into their supply chains. These issues cause delays, lost data, and inefficiencies that hold back growth.

The Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation ( ), an initiative by the African Development Bank, supports farmers and agribusinesses by promoting proven innovations that increase productivity, improve food security, and raise incomes.

To help connect these technologies with those who need them most, TAAT developed the e-Catalog, a digital platform showcasing validated digital solutions tailored for the private sector players, governments and development partners. The e-Catalog makes it simple to find, assess, and adopt tools that address real challenges in African agriculture.

We at eProd are proud to be featured in the TAAT e-Catalog. From farmer registration and field activity monitoring to certification management and payment processing, eProd streamlines operations and brings structure to unstructured supply chain.

And because it works both online and offline, agribusinesses in remote areas can still operate smoothly without relying on constant internet access.
