Hon.CS Askul alia Bendera Yetu led this yearโs Mazingira Day celebrations at Chewoyet National School in West Pokot County, as part of the governmentโs wider 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme, which seeks to increase Kenyaโs tree cover to 30 per cent by 2032.
"Held under the theme, โOur Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship", the celebrations seek to encourage Kenyans to participate in environmental conservation, including tree planting and forest restoration.
Mazingira Week, which started on 5th October 2026, targets the planting of 17.24 million trees through activities involving communities, government institutions, schools and other sectors.

Present were PS Joel Arumonyang' (Public Works), West Pokot County Commissioner David Saruni, Woman Representative Hon. Rael Aleutum, MPs Hon. Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria), Hon.
