AEdu: Artificial Life (ALife) Education Virtual Workshop - East (Japan/Asia) is still open for registration!
A free, fully virtual workshop on May 25, 2026 — bringing together top ALife scholars from Japan and the US to share their experiences, develop shared learning goals for ALife and build a community around best practices.
What is Artificial Life (ALife)?
ALife is an emerging field of study of life- its systems, processes, evolution and everything related to it. It encompasses a multidisciplinary range of fields in science, math and technology. In the process, art is created, philosophy is discussed, and the bigger life questions are asked in these conversations. It’s a fun, global community of humans who care about natural life and its future.
ALife examines life, as it could be.
The challenges: how to teach ALife, why ALife, why now?
Japan workshop speakers and facilitators:
Q. Tyrell Davis, Independent Research
Jean Alfonso-Decena, In Silence AI
Bert Chan, Artificial Life Institute
Takashi Ikegami, Atomi Information Science and Arts Center
Keisuke Suzuki, Hokkaido University
If you’re currently in Japan/Asia timezone, an educator, researcher, professional in the tech industry and other spaces that work with science, math, technology, the arts and philosophy, or curious about ALife (no formal training but highly interested, you might be doing ALife already!), you are needed in this workshop.
In this inaugural run, we aim to define challenges and opportunities for ALife education and co-design potential teaching strategies. Therefore, we need a wide range of perspectives.
