Congratulations to all our CodEng students on completing the 2025/26 academic year!

From Scratch to Unity, with lots of Python and AI in between, it has been a fantastic year of learning and creativity.

This year, our CodEng adventures have taken us far and wide, from Milan to Osaka, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Next, we have our sights set on the tech scene in Ireland in August and October, a return to the futuristic city of Shenzhen in March 2027, and Silicon Valley and Space Camp USA in summer 2027.

Along the way, we are learning so much, building amazing projects and, most importantly, having a lot of fun.

Last night’s showcase at Sala Montanari in Varese was a wonderful celebration of our students’ hard work. There were so many excellent presentations, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports what we do: to the parents who encourage us and help spread the word, to Simone, my fantastic co-host for the evening, and to Mogahid, our photographer.

Thank you all, and a presto! 😄👋

Siamo super emozionati per il nostro evento speciale questo venerdì nella Sala Montanari! 🎉

Pope Leo XIV’s new document on Artificial Intelligence is a timely reminder that the future of technology is not only about machines, but about people.

Here’s some of the key points from today’s document, Magnifica Humanitas, the Pope's encyclical on safeguarding the human person in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

It is a 92-page document that explores how AI and emerging technologies are transforming society, education, work, democracy and human relationships. Its purpose is not to reject AI, but to call for a future where technology remains at the service of human dignity, truth, freedom and the common good.

👉 AI is not good or bad in itself. It depends how we use it.

👉 Technology must serve people, not replace human dignity.

👉 Human beings are more than data, productivity or performance.

👉 AI can educate, connect and support creativity, but it can also exclude, manipulate or divide.

👉 Schools have a vital role in teaching young people to use AI critically and responsibly.

👉 Digital literacy is now part of preparing students for the future.

👉 Work, creativity and human judgement must remain central in the age of automation.

👉 Real human relationships matter. Simulated connection is not the same as true connection.

👉 Truth, democracy and freedom need protection in the digital age.

👉 The future of AI must be shaped by responsibility, transparency and the common good.

At CodEng, we believe young people should learn how these tools work, not with fear, but with curiosity, responsibility and critical thinking.

The future will be shaped by AI, but it must remain a future built around people.

As the founder of my own education business, feedback usually comes in quieter ways.

Students come back. Parents recommend the courses. The business grows.

But one thing I really appreciate about Stanford Code in Place is how specific the feedback is for Section Leaders: student comments, participation data, and even AI-generated analysis of things like talk time and engagement.

I’ll admit, opening those reports each week can sometimes feel a little nerve-racking. 😅 They have not always been this glowing.

This week though… I think I nailed it.

Grateful for the students, the feedback, and the reminder that good coding lessons are not just about explaining clearly. They are about creating space for students to contribute and solve problems together. They are also fun times! 🥳

We had a fun conclusion to our Scratch course yesterday in Varese. In 25 lessons we built 10 games, from Space Invaders to Pacman and Snake. We learnt about programming fundamentals such as conditionals, variables, loops, events and how to debug when things go wrong. Students presented their work to a packed room of curious parents . Delighted to be returning to class next September to continue the journey! 🥳

In the age of agentic AI, coding is not disappearing. It is becoming a higher-level skill.

AI is creating new opportunities for people who understand code well enough to guide AI agents, debug their mistakes, connect tools, test outputs and build real systems, including physical AI through robotics and smart technology, while doing it all responsibly.

The future is not less technology, it is more intelligent, agentic technology.

This will be a key topic at this year's CodEng summer STEM camp. Sign up today!

“AI art can feel like a mixed bag of everyone else’s work.”

That was one of the most thoughtful comments from a student during our AI class at Scuole Manfredini Liceo Artistico in Varese.

Using iPads and ChatGPT’s image generation tools, the students experimented with creating photorealistic architectural concepts, from interiors and courtyards to futuristic buildings.

The aim was simple: let them try the tools for themselves, see what worked, notice what didn’t, and start forming their own opinions.

We also discussed copyright, bias, unrealistic details, and the fact that AI-generated images are visual concepts, not technical drawings.

I finished with one question:

L’AI sostituisce la creatività o la amplifica?

The class was torn. Some felt AI can amplify creativity. Others strongly preferred human creativity, with all its originality, intention and imperfection.

For me, that is where real AI literacy begins: hands-on experimentation, critical judgement and honest discussion about what these tools can, and cannot, do.

Well done to all and thank you to the teachers at the school for inviting me to speak.
