Teyf Group as a premier ICT & telecoms market research and management consulting firm and the think-tank of Iran Telecommunications had the honor to have an active presentation in the event. Teyf Group had the pleasure to welcome the presence of ITU Secretary-General Dr. Hamadoun Touré at its stand on the showfloor, where Dr. Touré showed his contentment and gratification for Teyf Group active participation in such important international events and wished further achievements and accomplishments for its future endeavors. His Excellency Dr. Reza Taghipour, Minister of ICT in Iran, as another distinguished participant in this event also visited Teyf Group as the only Iranian stand and discussed different international opportunities with Teyf Group Director, Mr. Mahdi Rouhani.
One of the most important outcomes of ITU Telecom World 2011 and the Broadband Commission meeting in the opening was the endorsement of measurable broadband targets which covers policy, affordability and uptake:
Making broadband policy universal. By 2015, all countries should have a national broadband plan or strategy or include broadband in their Universal Access / Service Definitions.
Making broadband affordable. By 2015, entry-level broadband services should be made affordable in developing countries through adequate regulation and market forces (for example, amount to less than 5% of average monthly income).
Connecting homes to broadband. By 2015, 40% of households in developing countries should have Internet access.
Getting people online. By 2015, Internet user pe*******on should reach 60% worldwide, 50% in developing countries and 15% in Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
Such targets for ITU member countries and the obligation for setting a national broadband strategy by 2015 could lead to faster broadband development and better economic growth, trade and productivity through all countries around the world, especially the emerging markets and least developed regions.
