Youth Reservation in Politics: From Campaign Workers to Decision-Makers
In India, we have provisions for representation of various sections of society, including SCs, STs, BCs, and women. However, where is the reservation for youth in political representation?
Young people are the backbone of every political party. They work tirelessly during election campaigns, organize public meetings, mobilize voters, promote party ideologies, and dedicate their time and energy to bringing parties to power. Yet, when it comes to allocating tickets to contest elections and providing opportunities to become decision-makers, youth are often overlooked.
Youth should not be limited to campaigning for leaders; they should have opportunities to become leaders themselves.
We urge all political parties to introduce a concrete policy for youth representation by reserving a fair percentage of election tickets for young candidates at the local body, municipal, state legislative assembly, and parliamentary levels.
Furthermore, we call upon the Government of India and Parliament to introduce and pass appropriate legislation to ensure meaningful political representation for youth.
Our demand is simple: Youth deserve not just participation in politics, but representation, leadership, and decision-making power.
The time has come to move from politics for the youth to politics by the youth.
Give youth a voice. Give youth a chance. Give youth the power to lead.
This is the change we envision through Idovin Strategies—building a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive political system.
