*WANNA CRY RANSOMWARE VIRUS RESCUE*
IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF RANSOMWARE, THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE WILL EXPLORE ALL THE OPTIONS YOU HAVE TO DAMAGE CONTROL AND TO RESCUE YOURSELF FROM ANY KIND OF RANSOMWARE ATTACK.
*DAMAGE CONTROL:*
# Immediately stop using your computer
# Disconnect your computer from the internet and local network
# Backup all the data from your computer whichever you find that has not got infected / encrypted, onto a fresh storage drive* - to identify which files are infected, check the extension of the files. If extension of the file has changed to some unknown extention, means file has been encrypted / infected.
# Do not connect this fresh storage drive used for backup to any other computer system, there stands a chance of the virus spreading onto the host computer also. Therefore you should only try to check your backup drive on a live disk which also has a good antivirus to disinfect. NOTE: Not all anti viruses could be 100% efficient to disinfect. Please be cautioned or contact your computer expert.
# If you get data of your importance, you are rescued. PLEASE format your hard drive completely (not only the logical C: Drive) and reinstall everything and its all back to normal.
*BUT, IF FILES OF IMPORTANCE ARE ALREADY INFECTED THAN YOU HAVE FEW OPTIONS LEFT:*
# Remove your infected hard drive containing important data and replace it with a new hard drive till a solution is found to decrypt your data and disinfect your drive.
# In case of an office setup, Freeze all your drives (multiple drives) into one storage drive, and format all the infected drives and then reuse them all. Repeating once again - PLEASE format your hard drive completely (not only the logical C: Drive) after freezing all your drives and reinstall everything and its all back to normal use; except your data which may be revived after some processing. Contact your computer expert to understand what does freezing a drive state means. It certainly doesn’t mean to put your hard drive or computer into a refrigerator :)
