HTC Desire 828 review: A device worth considering, under Rs. 20,000.

The build of the HTC Desire 828 is similar to its predecessors. The review unit we received has a black matte finished back and a golden brown border that surrounds the phone. The rear back panel is non removable but if you try really hard, you can get it off. The phone is really slim at 7.9mm and is very comfortable to hold. The matte rubberised back of the smartphone gives it a really good grip, better than some phones with a metal body. Considering the design on offer with the HTC Desire 828 it was extremely comfortable to hold especially when using the keyboard to type.

Before we get into the performance of the smartphone here is a quick look at the specifications. As we’ve mentioned, the HTC Desire 828 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Under the hood, the smartphone has the Mediatek MT6753 chipset with the Octa-core 1.5GHz CPU. The device has 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage which can be expanded up to 200GB via a microSD card. The rear has a 13MP OIS camera and the front has a 4MP UltraPixel camera. A 2800mAh battery powers the entire package.

The HTC Desire 828 falls somewhere in the middle. It isn’t a powerhouse like the Zenfone 2, that has 4GB RAM, but the Desire 828 is a smooth performer nonetheless. It doesn’t have a fancy curved glass back like the Lenovo Vibe S1, but the matte rubberised finish gives the device a good grip. It has no fingerprint sensor but we really aren’t complaining about that. It doesn’t have the Marathon M5’s battery but it can last a day. What it does have going for it is a great display and some good sound. Overall this is your run of the mill sturdy and trustworthy smartphone with a comfortable form factor, good sound and display and an average camera. You can consider it among the other smartphones mentioned on this list.

Moto 360 (2nd Gen) to launch in India on December 1
Motorola has sent out block your date notices to the media, with clear indications that the Moto 360 will be launched on December 1.

The second generation Moto 360 smartwatch is finally coming to India. The company has sent out block your date notices to the media for December 1, with the hashtag MotoTimeHack. While the invite doesn’t specifically state that the Moto 360 will be launched on that date, the round there’s a round Android Wear dial on the image, which can mean only one thing.
The second generation Moto 360 was announced at IFA, Berlin this year and retains the basic overall looks of its predecessor. Motorola though has moved the button on the watch, from a 3’o’clock to 2’o’clock position, while also making some internal changes in the device’s processing power. The device has been selling in some overseas markets for a while now, making it long overdue in India.

Microsoft's 'Create Together' program lets Windows Insiders build their dream smartphones

After the continued success of the Windows Insider program, Microsoft is looking to expand its functionality to include hardware design. The Redmond giant is currently sending out emails to select Windows Insiders around the world, soliciting their collaboration on the hardware front. Dubbed "Create Together", the program will let Insiders suggest color choices and design ideas that will "empower" them to do more:

"Let's do the amazing. Let's create something empowering. It's time to 'Create Together'.
Imagine being a part of the making of a device of your choices, your colours, your design, your wishes.
A device created with your vision, built by a Microsoft partner a device that will empower you to do more and tell your story, your way.
A device made from thoughtful choices of a select few like you."

So, let's begin this journey.
Gabe Aul commented that he would be interested in the idea earlier this month, and it looks like the email that's going out to Insiders is the first step in that direction. We'll share additional details as we receive them.

What design ideas would you guys suggest if you were included in the program? Share your thoughts in the comments.

You can buy a OnePlus 2 off invites, between November 25 and 27
This is the second time the OnePlus 2 has been put on open sale, in less than 6 months since it was launched worldwide.

he OnePlus 2 smartphone will be available on open sale on Amazon India from tomorrow onwards. The company just announced that its flagship smartphone will be put on open sale from 12AM on November 25 and the sale will continue till 11.59PM on November 27. According to a blog post made by OnePlus, the sale is part of the promise made by the company, to make up for its failure to meet demand with the OnePlus 2 this year.
OnePlus has been ramping up its efforts in India in order to drive sales. When the company entered the country last year, its then flagship smartphone, the OnePlus One, took the market by storm, halting Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi’s rapid expansion. That said, the OnePlus 2 faces much more competition than its predecessor. Phones like the Honor 7, Moto X Play and others have given it touch competition, while higher priced phones, like the new Nexus devices, have also gained a lot of interest from consumers.

Latest leak suggests a new version of Yu Yuphoria in works.

4.6-in FHD display, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage. If priced right, this might just be the ultimate budget smartphone.

According to the GFXBench databases, the new Yu YU6000 Yuphoria has a 4.6-inch display, instead of a 5-inch one. The resolution of the display is supposedly upgraded to 1080p, from the current generation 720p. The MediaTek SoC which powers the new phone is the octa-core MT6753, the same one used by Meizu M2 Note and Coolpad Note 3. There is 3GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, and the phone scores 203 frames in Manhattan Onscreen, and 189 frames in Manhattan Offscreen on the GFXBench 3.1 synthetic benchmark.

The other upgrade comes in the form of a new camera, and according to the GFXBench page, it has a 13MP rear autofocus camera, which also allows touch-to-focus. The front-facing camera is supposedly upgraded to 8 megapixels. The phone in the benchmark is running on Android Lollipop v5.1. Whether it's running on stock Android, or some version of CyanogenMod, is yet to be determined. Despite the optimism, chances are that this could just be a test device which might not materialise.

The smartphone will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM. No information is there about the built-in storage, but the smartphone will support expandable storage up to 128GB via a microSD card. The device will have a 20.7MP rear camera, and a 13MP front camera, and run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.

Android Marshmallow: All phones scheduled for updates soon.
Check it out to see if your phone is in the queue or not.

Google’s latest update, Android v6.0, endeared as 'Marshmallow', is out. While it is officially available only on a handful of phones at the moment, OEMs are putting schemes and schedules in place to roll the update out to their devices. Is your phone eligible for the Marshmallow update – the best of Android till date? Here is a quick roundup of all the phones which will, or are expected, to get Android Marshmallow, in the not-so-distant future.

Nexus devices & Android One

Android 6.0 OTA update started rolling out for the following Nexus devices from the second week of October 2015, and if you are still on an older version of Android, it is time to upgrade.

HTC

Every time, when Google announces the public availability of its latest Android operating system, OEMs rush to announce the update schedule for the new OS on their current range of phones. This time, HTC came first. The Taiwanese phone maker is also the only company to have already launched a smartphone, the One A9, which comes with Android 6.0 preloaded. Here are the rest of its phones which are slated to receive Android 6.0, soon.

Sony

Sony has also stated that it is working on Android v6.0 update, for the following phones. While we are quite sure that the Z Range of phones will get the update, we are a bit skeptic about the rest.

Honor

When Huawei’s marketing executive Xi Zhao announced recently that the company is working to bring the Android 6.0 update to its phones, it was a pleasant surprise from the Chinese company. It tweeted to have been working to bring Android 6.0 update to the following phones by February 2016:

LG

LG might have been a Nexus partner for Google, with its Nexus 5X receiving generally rave reviews, but the company has no major scheme to bring the latest Android operating system to its range of smartphones. The only exceptions here are LG G4 and G3, which will get an early update, beginning in Poland. While LG G4 has started receiving the update, LG G3 will start receiving the update by December 2015. However, LG is quite slow with its regional updates, and we expect it to be available on Indian devices by February 2016.

Samsung

Samsung has always been a little late, when it comes to new Android updates. But, like its design and UI, the company has shortened its update cycle over time. It has not put out an official list, but according to SamMobile, these are the devices that are considered eligible:

Galaxy S6
Galaxy S6 Edge
Galaxy S5
Galaxy Note Edge
Galaxy Note 5
Galaxy S6 Edge+
Galaxy Note 4

All of these phones are expected to get the Android v6.0 update by February 2016. However, other phones like the Galaxy Alpha, and Galaxy A series, might also also be a part of the list above.

OnePlus

OnePlus recently announced that all three of its phones — OnePlus 2, OnePlus X and the OnePlus One, will be getting the Android v6.0 update. While OnePlus 2 (with Oxygen OS) will be updated in Q1 2016, the update schedule for the other two phones is yet to be confirmed.

9/10

Motorola

Motorola’s own UI comes very close to the stock Android UI. Additionally, the company also has a very prompt update cycle. Android v6.0 OTA update has already started rolling out for two of its phones – the Moto X Style and the Moto X (2nd gen). According to the official blog, we can expect the following Motorola phones to get updated to the latest Android offering very soon:

Asus

Asus also announced that they will be updating a bunch of its devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, in the coming months. Here is the list:

ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL)
ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML and ZE551ML)
ZenFone 2 Deluxe (ZE551ML)
Five variants of the ZenFone 2 Laser – ZE500KG, ZE500K

Gesture control smartwatch by Indian start-up debuts in Mumbai

The Hug smartwatch designed by Hug Innovations will be available for Rs. 8,000 and will help users control their gadgets with the motion of their hands.

Before I tell you more about how the Hug smartwatch differentiates itself from others, let's first get its specs out of the way. The watch uses a High Resolution 9 axis IMU (3Axis Accelerometer-3AxisGyroscope-3Axis Magnetometer) and a Low Resolution 3 Axis Accelerometer which helps the watch's gesture control capabilities. The watch houses a 1.6-inch, 240x240 pixels, always on Transflective LCD display protected by Asahi Dragontrail Glass. It runs on the Nucleus RTOS operating system and a Mediatek 2502 C processor. The Hug watch is compatible with Android, iOS devices and uses standard Bluetooth 4.0 connection to pair with devices. It comes with 2GB built-in storage and 128MB RAM.
According to the company, this whole package is powered by a 360mAh battery which lasts about 1.5 - 2 days on use and 5 days on standby. "In virtual reality environments, right now you have a joystick. You are inside a virtual environment but you still have a video-game like experience. But, now if you use your hands, you can shoot people, zoom in and zoom out, change directions, it's the next level." says an enthusiastic employee giving demos of the Hug Smartwatch booth at the Microsoft event. He went on to explain that the company has plans to expose their SDK to developers who can integrate their gesture control technology to any Blutooth ecosystem, be it a robotic arm, a traffic signal, etc. "We are the first smartwatch in the world to integrate with the Oculus Rift," said the spokesperson.

Along with its gesture control capabilities, the Hug smartwatch also allows users to make calls, send text messages, navigate maps, play music and find devices wirelessly. The watch also has a buil-in heart-rate monitor along with a couple of cool security features. "For India, personal safety plays a huge role, so how we differentiate in the personal safety angle is that we have an SOS button on the watch, all people have to do is press it and contacts will be notified with a tiny URL through which the person can be tracked in real time," said Neravati. This panic button is also coupled with a gesture based security feature which can also interpret a hand gesture as sign of trouble for situations discretion is neccessary. The gesture-based safety is always on and can also detect if the user faints and falls or has a vehicular accident. Hug Innovations is one of the many start-ups that use Microsoft's Azure platform to build their businesses.

Pepsi branded smartphone now official

The phone is called the P1s and company has started a crowdfunding campaign in China for the device which has a 5.5-inch FHD display and a fingerprint scanner

Pepsi’s rumoured smartphone, the P1s, is now official. The company has started a crowdfunding campaign for the device on China’s equivalent of Kickstarter called JD Finance. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD 2.5D display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6592 SoC that is clocked in at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM. The P1s comes with 16GB storage which can be expanded via a microSD card and also comes with a 3000mAh battery. At the rear of the device is a 13MP camera while there is a 5MP front camera. The Pepsi P1s will run Android Lollipop v5.1 with an overlay called Dido OS 6.1. The device seems to be built out of metal and will have a fingerprint scanner at the back.

The least amount of money that supporters can spend on the campaign is one Yuan (approx. Rs. 10). For this amount, supporters will enter a lottery where 1 of every 500 supporters will win the phone. The lowest amount of money that would guarantee the Pepsi P1s is 499 Yuan, which is about Rs. 5,200. However, the limit of 1000 supporters for that amount has been reached. Thise interested in owning the Pepsi P1s will have to commit 699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 7,200). However, they will have to hurry as this has a limit of 1000 supporters as well. There are no limits for those who commit 1,299 Yuan, which is approximately Rs.13,400. The project has up till December 3 to reach its target of three million Yuan (approx. Rs. 3.1 crores) and has raised about 662,238 Yuan till now.

Rumours of smartphone with Pepsi’s branding popped up in October this year. A Pepsico spokeswoman had told Reuters via an email that, “Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories.” Pepsi isn’t the only brand to allow its name to be on smartphones. Sports car manufacturer Ferrari and even the football club FC Barcelona, have allowed smartphone makers the license to create limited edition phones with their branding.
