I have a tendency of wincing at my work once I have completed it. It happens with almost every project. But more so for the ones that I do for others. It’s just very hard for me to believe someone actually likes what I’m producing. I think a part of me doesn’t fully accept it.
I made my first wedding invite this year, and when we were nearing completion, and the couple started to show their approval, I was in a genuine flux of disbelief every time they complimented me. I just couldn’t believe they were actually okay with what I made. Even though I had spent hours, days trying to deliver my best, I just couldn’t believe that it was enough.
But this one is special because of multiple reasons:
1. It was the first time someone trusted me with their wedding invites after seeing my work, in one go.
2. While making this invite, we tried to include as many elements from both their lives, as we could to make this the perfect blend of both their personalities and cultures. The guy is currently serving in the army. An environment, all three of us, the couple and me, were brought up in. This gave me a chance to picture their life together the way I had grown up seeing couples around me as a child, and bring in details that would mirror their future.
The couple took an evening to decide the song they would like in the background then unanimously came back choosing Yellow by Coldplay to wrap their invites in, the very next day. It was very sweet.
