India’s leather industry is embracing sustainability like never before, driven by growing demand for eco-friendly products globally. From reducing chemical usage to conserving water, the sector is rapidly shifting toward greener practices. However, the road to sustainability is paved with challenges—companies failing to meet these new standards face exclusion from key markets.

Beyond the leather factories, the sustainability of the entire supply chain comes into focus, particularly in agriculture. From cattle farming to plant-based tannins, the journey of raw materials must also align with eco-friendly practices.

Crop Analytica steps in to provide real-time monitoring and traceability of agricultural inputs used in leather production, ensuring compliance with sustainability goals. By monitoring land and chemical usage, and promoting sustainable farming, we help agri-businesses meet the rising demands of the leather industry and secure their place in a greener global market. Together, we can create an end-to-end sustainable leather supply chain that not only meets regulations but sets new benchmarks for eco-friendly practices.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stopped accepting pesticide data from a laboratory in India, following concerns of data falsification discovered during an inspection by the National Good Laboratory Practice Compliance Monitoring Authority (NGCMA). This action underscores the importance of strict compliance and transparency in agricultural data submission. Data validation is critical, ensuring that each dataset meets regulatory and scientific standards to prevent any risk to public health and market credibility. Non-compliance not only risks a company’s credibility but can also lead to penalties and market access restrictions.

In this tightening regulatory landscape, Crop Analytica offers comprehensive solutions to ensure full compliance across your agricultural operations. From regulatory reporting mechanisms and multiple layers of data validation to proactive risk management, Crop Analytica helps you stay compliant, competitive, and trusted in the market. Ensure your business remains ahead of regulatory changes—partner with Crop Analytica for reliable compliance and operational excellence.

The European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is set to transform the cocoa industry, making it a more sustainable and transparent sector. As reported by Confectionery News, the regulation, which comes into effect by the end 2024, aims to prevent the sale of products linked to deforestation and forest degradation.

At the recent Cocoa and Chocolate Industry Conference, industry experts discussed the implications of the EUDR on the cocoa supply chain. According to the Executive Director of the International Cocoa Initiative, "The EUDR is a game-changer for the cocoa industry... It's a major step forward in terms of sustainability and transparency."

The regulation requires cocoa companies to demonstrate that their products are not linked to deforestation, which will necessitate the implementation of robust traceability systems. This may pose challenges for smallholder farmers, who may struggle to meet the new requirements.

Key challenges:
+ 90% of cocoa farms are smallholder farms, which may be impacted by the regulation
+ Smallholder farmers may struggle to meet the new requirements due to limited resources and infrastructure
+ Companies may need to invest in digital solutions to track and verify the origin of their cocoa

Industry initiatives:
+ Major cocoa trading companies are already working on implementing traceability systems
+ Certification schemes like the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the Rainforest Alliance may play a role in helping companies demonstrate compliance with the EUDR
+ Industry-wide collaboration is necessary to support smallholder farmers and ensure a sustainable cocoa supply chain

With over 4.5 million tons of cocoa produced annually, ensuring a sustainable supply chain for this commodity is essential. Crop Analytica supports such initiatives, offering advanced data-driven solutions to enhance transparency and promote sustainable practices across the agricultural sector.

Climate change is no longer a far-off threat; it’s today’s reality. With rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and frequent droughts, the agricultural industry stands at the forefront of the climate crisis. In 2020, the US witnessed a record-breaking 22 billion-dollar disasters, with agriculture being one of the hardest-hit sectors. According to IPCC reports, global temperatures have already increased by 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels, leading to a higher risk of extreme weather events.

For agri-enterprises, building climate resilience isn’t just a necessity—it’s an opportunity to innovate and lead. From climate-smart crop selection to sustainable water management practices, adopting adaptive strategies can safeguard productivity. Crop Analytica empowers businesses to stay ahead of environmental uncertainties by enabling real-time, data-driven decisions that protect both yield and ecological balance.
