PART 5 — The First Fear of Her Life
Before the Snow Falls
She had never been sick before.
No major illness.
No warning signs.
Her life was healthy, predictable, beautifully ordinary.
But everything changes with one moment.
A sudden, sharp pressure behind her eyes.
A strange wave of dizziness.
A brief blur in her vision.
It scares her—because it’s new.
Because it’s unfamiliar.
Because she has never felt anything like this in her entire life.
She tries to shake it off.
Maybe it’s the weather.
Maybe stress.
Maybe just a long week.
But later that night, it returns.
Stronger.
Clearer.
Impossible to ignore.
When he falls asleep beside her, she quietly gets out of bed.
She opens her laptop, hesitating before typing in her symptoms.
The glow of the screen reflects the fear she’s trying to hide.
She scrolls through medical pages, articles, explanations—
each one pointing to the same terrifying possibility.
Cancer.
Her heart drops.
Her breath breaks.
Tears fall silently onto the keyboard as she covers her mouth to stop herself from crying out loud.
Not because she fears the illness—
but because she fears how this truth will shatter him.
The next morning, she forces a smile.
Soft.
Gentle.
Pretending everything is normal.
But he sees it.
He sees her hold her head for a second too long.
He sees the tremble in her hands.
He sees the fear behind her eyes, even if she won’t say it.
He knows something is wrong.
Very wrong.
The moment arrives without warning.
Her legs weaken.
Her eyes lose focus.
She collapses before she can speak his name.
He catches her instantly—voice shaking, panic crushing him.
He lifts her, whispering her name again and again as he carries her to the car.
“Stay with me… please stay with me…”
The engine roars.
He drives toward the hospital with trembling hands, praying every second will not be their last.
What began as the first symptom of her life
becomes the turning point of their story.
The story continues…
