The contest consists of multiple rounds of algorithmic puzzles, culminating in the World Finals at Google's office in Dublin, Ireland. On August 6, 1991, 2016 ACM Turing Award recipient Sir Tim Berners-Lee launched the world’s first website. On http://info.cern.ch, Berners-Lee explained the concept of the World Wide Web, and gave users an introduction to starting their own websites.

Since he first articulated his vision for the World Wide Web, Berners-Lee has always been a strong advocate for its interoperability, accessibility, and long-term sustainability.
