Gemewizard® is a pioneer in the development of digital color-based systems, which provide solutions for professionals involved in the fancy colored diamonds, colored gemstones and jewelry industries, enabling the analysis, description, communication, pricing and trading of color in gems. The suite of products developed by Gemewizard® is based on the company’s groundbreaking color communication technology called GemeSquare™, which has been endorsed by GIA® Education, and since 2006 has been incorporated into the GIA® curriculum. Gemewizard is the brainchild of Menahem Sevdermish, an internationally recognized authority on gem commercialization and gemstone processing. He began his research in 1995 into the development of a software-based solution for digital color communication and gem grading. Using the extensive data accumulated by the Gemological Center of Israel (headed by Sevdermish), initial tests were conducted to verify the colors of gems. A major breakthrough in his research occurred in 1998 when the core program of a digital color grading system began to take shape. He created a special patent-pending system using thousands of gem images. The system was designed to recreate the image of a gem of a selected color in 17 of the most common gem shapes. The resulting database contains more than 500,000 well-sorted color/shape combinations of digitally created gem images. Sevdermish then set about to work together with GIA® Education to map the GIA color-space. Collaboration between GIA’s technical team and Sevdermish’s development team began in March 2003. During more than a year of testing and refinement, the two teams fine-tuned the colors of Gemewizard to represent those in GIA’s color-description system and to establish standardized lighting and grading procedures that were essential to ensure consistent results. The result of this extensive process is the GemeSquare™, Gemewizard’s basic digital color communication and grading system, which was endorsed by GIA Education in 2005 and since then has been incorporated into the GIA® curriculum.
