It's taken a while to finish the carving this linocut print. I'd initially transferred the sketch to the block and started in November 2020. This evening, finally, I got to have a crack at printing it for the first time using the back of a wooden spoon on some scrap paper.

Printing this by hand on the kitchen bench was a bit rough. I may have to track down a press to get a decent print or two done. Regardless, I'm going to bed happy tonight.

This linocut is one I started a good while back. It's one I've put down and come back to several times. Laming back after putting in several hours of slow tooling it seems like very little progress has been made. I don't hope that it'll all be worth it in the end. The process is progress.

It's something I've been putting off - obliquely, a visit to Kookville. Funny how Sloth's hackles prickle at the thought of initiating proceedings. It was late enough last night, and I could've used the extra kip, but with one eye on the mongrel I got stuck in...

Stoked to spend a day carving and printing with at the Belfast Print Workshop yesterday. Sean's energy and approach to getting ideas onto the block, and his raw attacking style to carving, has inspired for me for years.

Talking story, tools and technique was gold - couldn't belive there was only handful of us there - intimate and intense.

I carved out a piece about a fish losing its s**t about having to be inside working while pumping waves are pumping just outside, "...wtf am I doing with my life?". Yeah, I feel it buddy.

Here's two test prints of a new linocut finished in the last few weeks, and an older one finished during covid. Both printed at the on a Thursday evening session.

The first is about 10.5 x 14.5 cm printed on a pookie press. The second is about 30 x 40 cm printed on an etching press.

Results from today's Suminagashi Paper Marbling Workshop with as part of the . The process is deceptively simple. A tray of water. Ink, delicately translucent upon the surface, writes in fractal-esque forms. The trick is to capture the dance as a snapshot on paper. It seemed that absorbance was a key characteristic for the matrix onto which the pattern is pulled.

I'd brought along some scraps of nylon fabric to experiment with. The first attempt resulted in the expected - the ink sliding off the material as it was pulled from the water. Tweaking the approach on the second attempt resulted in a surprising success.

Ideas spiral.

Thanks Ruth... 🌈

A big drop of our fresh handmade pieces recently landed at in Bundoran.

Whether you're touring through the region or just floating about waiting for the tide to turn, 15 minutes to yourself with a hot brew and one of those windows seats could be one of the better decisions you make this week...

Acid dyeing a boat sail rescued from a local skip. Diverting this material from landfill is temporary. Is this aesthetic shift arresting enough for the material to be re-seen, reconsumed? From this point, it will be cut and sewn into useful things.
