🚨 AI-Powered Attacks Are Changing the Cybersecurity Landscape

A newly reported campaign is actively exploiting critical vulnerabilities in PaperCut NG/MF, using AI-driven automation to identify, exploit, and compromise vulnerable systems at unprecedented speed. More than 440 instances across 48 countries have reportedly been compromised, with attackers achieving full domain administrator access in as little as seven minutes.

What makes this attack particularly concerning is not just the vulnerabilities themselves, but the scale and speed enabled by AI. Once compromised, attackers have a direct pathway into Active Directory, creating opportunities for credential theft, lateral movement, ransomware deployment, and data exfiltration.

If your organisation uses PaperCut NG/MF, now is the time to:

✅ Verify patch levels across all instances
✅ Restrict external access to PaperCut web interfaces where possible
✅ Review logs and monitor for indicators of compromise
✅ Assess whether other internet-facing applications could present similar risks

The reality is that most organisations don't struggle because vulnerabilities exist. They struggle because they don't have visibility of what needs patching, prioritisation of what matters most, or the resources to continuously monitor and manage risk.

At ITM Tech, our Vulnerability Management Service helps organisations identify, prioritise, and remediate security weaknesses before attackers can exploit them. We provide continuous visibility, expert guidance, and actionable remediation plans that reduce cyber risk and support compliance requirements.

🚨 Millions of phishing emails, with a trick you can't see.

A new phishing campaign has been using invisible Unicode characters to hide keywords inside emails and potentially bypass certain filtering techniques.

The email can look completely normal to you, while hidden characters are quietly breaking up important words behind the scenes.

The campaign reached millions of messages, showing how quickly attackers can scale new techniques.

It’s a good reminder that just because an email looks legitimate, doesn’t mean it is.

Would you spot the difference? 👀

🛡️ Only 27 days until Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Every October, businesses are encouraged to take a fresh look at their cybersecurity habits.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing practical cybersecurity tips and reminders to help businesses strengthen their security and address the small things that can sometimes become bigger problems.

What’s one cybersecurity habit you know your business should improve?

📱 Still using SMS or voice for MFA? A change is coming.

Microsoft is moving Microsoft Entra ID towards stronger, phishing-resistant authentication methods such as passkeys.

From September 2026, affected users will begin seeing prompts to register a passkey. Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication is then set to retire on 1 February 2027.

For businesses, the key is not to wait until the deadline. Identifying users who rely on SMS or voice now can help make the transition smoother and avoid unnecessary disruption later.

Do you know which MFA methods your team is currently relying on?

🚨 Cyber Threat Watch: A critical Windows vulnerability is being actively exploited.

CVE-2026-33824 affects the Windows Internet Key Exchange (IKE) Service Extensions and can allow attackers to remotely execute code without authentication.

The important takeaway for businesses? Patching matters.

Keeping systems updated, regularly scanning for vulnerabilities and checking that security updates have actually been applied can make a significant difference.

You don't want to discover an unpatched system because an attacker found it first.

When was the last time your business checked that all its systems were fully patched?

🔗 We’ll put the link in the comments.

🔐💻 Think your business is too small for hackers to bother with?

It's an easy assumption to make.

But cyberattacks don't really work that way. Smaller, busy businesses can be just as vulnerable, particularly when simple things get overlooked.

- An outdated laptop.
- A weak password.
- Staff who haven't had much security training.
- Backups that haven't been properly tested.

None of these might seem like a huge problem on their own. But put a few gaps together and suddenly your business is a lot more exposed than you thought.

And if something does go wrong, it's not just about losing access to your files.

It's the client waiting for an update.
The deadline you can't meet.
Your team spending hours trying to sort out a problem instead of getting on with their work.

The good news is that improving your security doesn't have to mean complicated systems or huge costs.

Sometimes, it's about getting the basics right and making sure the right things are in place.

When was the last time you actually checked how prepared your business would be if something went wrong?👇

AI doesn’t have to be scary or complicated. 🤖✨

When you strip away the tech hype, it’s really just a tool to help you get your afternoons back.

Think about it:
📧 Emails drafted in seconds.
⚙️ Repetitive admin sorted automatically.
📊 Big reports done before your coffee goes cold.

The secret? Doing it safely and sensibly from day one, instead of just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.🙌

If you want a clear, jargon-free look at how AI can actually help your business grow securely, the ITM Tech team is here to help.

How is your team using AI at work right now? Let us know in the comments! 👇
