Question I get asked a lot "Can I do SEO myself"?

And my answer is "jein" (German for "ja" and "nein", i.e. yes and no ๐Ÿ˜‰)!

There are 3 parts to SEO -

1. The way your site is built
2. The content you create on your website
3. The ways you promote your brand - social media, guest posts, podcast interviews, workshops etc.

Notice how YOU have huge control over the last two elements ๐Ÿ˜‰

(And if the way your site was built was maybe a bit dodgy definitely think about putting your focus on the bits that you can do something about!)

This client already has an established business, with a healthy audience...
But she ALSO had about 496 competing priorities ๐Ÿ™ˆ
So we created a SYSTEM to sell her membership

- SEO-optimised sales pages
- Blog posts designed to get found in Google and ChatGPT
- Blog templates linking to her free and paid offers
- Email templates that keep those offers visible

Was it cheap? NOOOO
Was it worth it? She's the best judge of that - and she tells me that the people she wants to work with are joining her email list, clicking on her offers, checking out her membership and becoming clients.

And this can continue to work for her long-term ...sounds worth it to me.

Can I have permission to be frivolous?

Good. I've had a tricky couple of weeks, so I appreciate the chance to have a bit of levity ๐Ÿ˜„

Recently I decided I wanted curly hair, so I bought one of those hair-curling thingies. Then I immediately felt a bit guilty because it was definitely a splurge.

A few minutes later, though, I got a notification that I'd earned affiliate commission from a blog post I wrote ages ago and the commission was more than DOUBLE what I'd spent.

There are lots of ways to make money from your website, but affiliate income is one of my favourites because it feels like a SURPRISE. In my case the work was done months ago, and without me promoting it at all it did it's job and paid for a treat.

Blog posts can genuinely do so much for your business if they're written well -

People start to trust you and see that you know your stuff
AI can scan your website and recommend you to people who are searching for the services you provide
You can add a CTA to join your email list or to check out your services or free or paid workshops/courses/membership
You can repurpose that content for social media or your newsletter

I know a lot of people feel like blogging is too much effort, so today look at this photo of me with my curly hair and remember that your website can keep paying you back long after you've hit publish.

What if your website showed up 31000 times as an answer in the last month... even if you hadn't actually had a chance to work on it at all?

That happened me in May and it's not because I have magic beans!

A million different things pulled my attention in May and my website wasn't one of them.

But thankfully as small businesses the work we have ALREADY done can keep bringing us enquiries and opportunities even when you are busy with something else.

Realistically there are going to be times when we have to drop the ball because life is life-ing/we're on holidays or we're caught up in client work.

What's one thing in your business that keeps working even when you aren't actively working on it?

If you walked past a shop in May and it still had pumpkins in the window, would you go in?

Probably not because an out of date shop window is offputting!

You'd feel like the business wasn't on the ball.

But we sometimes forget to give the online aspects of our businesses that TLC that we would just do as a routine if we had a physical shhop.

If you still have links to events that have already passed, old offers, outdated workshops, or seasonal content in your main menu, it can make your website feel neglected.

A quick spring clean can do wonders BUT....(and here's the bit most people MISS.....)

And bonus tip - write a BLOG POST about the event or program and link it to the page.
It means that when the event comes round again it's FAR MORE LIKELY to be shown to your ideal clients.
