It was a pleasure to design the programme for this year’s Ballybunion Bean Festival happening this Sat 22 & Sun 23. Such important discussions to be had around the future of our food systems and how the growing of beans in our fields can nourish the soil, our bodies and our food culture.

Lots of fun and entertainment happening over the two days too…with music by Sailhymn Ó Neart and Niamh O’Brien and a play by Luncheonette Dublin and comedy by Breda Larkin Lunch and dinner will be cooked by The Gourmet Offensive.

Looking forward to facilitating a workshop called Soil Salutations where we will be doing yoga and free movement to honour the earth and our true nature.

There will be family events on Sunday afternoon in town.

The handful of remaining tickets can be found on eventbrite 🫘

COMPOSTING CAPITALISM

I was delighted to receive an art bursary earlier this summer thanks to Financial Justice Ireland This was to support a period of reflection and the integration of local and global financial justice issues into my socially engaged art practice. It was good timing as I had just finished up a certificate in Creativity & Change at MTU Crawford.

My starting point was revisiting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were launched by the United Nations in 2015. To me, it felt that it is not possible to achieve these under capitalism. I spent some time reading and researching the writings and work of people like Jason Hickel, Vanessa Andreotti and Rob Hopkins for a wider perspective.

For this piece of work entitled Composting Capitalism, I cut out cardboard rectangles in the dimensions of the 5, 10, 20 and 50 euro. On them I wrote out 17 things I wanted to compost related to capitalism. This act, though small in the grand scheme of things, felt like a tangible fractal for future imagining. What if it was possible to compost capitalism? What if this was done on a collective and larger scale? What kind of beautiful things could be grown from this rich compost?

Seventeen things were just the beginning though. There is SO much more to compost!

Delighted to have gotten these made in time (late last night) to coincide with Sheela’s Day. This is a new style of earrings for Punch and Fable, incorporating more organic forms and some empty space in the middle to symbolise the portal into the expansive archetypal energy of Sheela na Gig. Hand formed in red, plum and purple - colours inspired by Sheela’s vast cosmic and fleshy energy. Sheelas now up on my shop ❤️‍🔥💜
