CHILD-IN-TECH PARTICIPANTS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP FROM OPEN LABS GHANA
Children who participated in the Child-In-Tech Conference held at the Blue Crest University College have been awarded scholarship worth 50 dollars from Open Labs Ghana.
Dubbed “Coding for Kids, the programme is accessible on a tablet/ mobile phone and will comprise of 34 lectures; 3 assignments; 6 downloadable resources and a certificate of completion”.
Beneficiaries will learn how to create their first program in scratch; How to create programs using operators; How to create variables and if-else statements sprites and experiment and explore how to build creativity and confidence.
This was disclosed by the Rector for Blue Crest University College, Dr Sujith Jayaprakash on the side-lines of the 2023 Child-In-Tech Conference in Accra.
Themed: “Promoting Financial Technology for Economic Growth”, the conference brought together 150 children from seven (7) schools as well as experts from the fintech industry who walked the students through the foundation and principles of Financial Technology. The Conference was sponsored by TapTap Send and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC)
The CEO of Child in Tech, Akua Otubea Essah has underscored the importance of building the skills and interests of young people in financial technology and the technological space in general. She asserted that now than ever before there is an urgent agenda of introducing, deepening the knowledge and application of technology in all aspect of the life of the youth especially students in the senior high schools, this is to ensure brighter and better future for themselves and the country.
She commended the sponsors, Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Investment (GIFEC), and particularly the platinum sponsor, TapTap Send, for demonstrating commitment to enhancing the FinTech space in the country.
In an interview, the Growth Africa Director of TapTap Send, Darryl Mawutor Abraham, said research indicate that students in the SHS level are amongst the most actively involved age group engaged in digital transactions for educational and financial transactions, they are not in full grounds of the nitty-gritty of financial technology which makes it imperative for entities like TapTap Send to support such educational programs.
The Senior Manager Sustainability and Partnership of GIFEC Abena Nyamesem, explained that GIFEC aims at bridging the electronic and digital infrastructure gap between the urban and rural centres towards enabling all the citizens of the land to be abreast of and benefit from the technological revolution. Some schools that participated in the conference included Accra Girls’ Senior High, Kanieshie Secondary Technical High, Accra Academy, Wesley Grammar, Airport East Methodist and Ideel High.
