HISP UiO and CEPI sign MoU to strengthen epidemic intelligence and pandemic preparedness: https://buff.ly/XEgGvKp

The HISP Centre at the University of Oslo (HISP UiO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the design, development, testing, and application of complementary digital functionalities in support of global health security. The agreement establishes a framework for the two organizations to explore areas of mutual interest in epidemic intelligence, pandemic preparedness and response, and the development of resilient health systems.

“Epidemic preparedness depends on having data not only to respond in a targeted and effective way to disease outbreaks but also to predict and inform preparation for future pandemics. Critical to this is having the right data infrastructure in place before a crisis hits,” said HISP UiO Director Kristin Braa. “CEPI has built an extraordinary global network for vaccine development and response, and we look forward to exploring what we can achieve together.”

Exploring (DPGs): Unlocking Access & Innovation

❓ What are DPGs? They are freely available resources like open-source software, open data, AI models, open standards, and open content—designed to make technology accessible to all. At their core is open-source software, which are collaboratively developed tools that anyone can use, modify, and share.

DPGs bridge the digital divide, empowering communities worldwide by ensuring that people, regardless of location or resources, can benefit from digital advancements. DHIS2, a member of the DPG Alliance, is a prime example—a free, open-source platform used in 80+ countries to manage data for health, education, logistics, climate, and more.

6 Key Benefits of DPGs:
✅ Universal access – Free digital tools for everyone.
✅ Community empowerment – Adapts to local needs, driving innovation.
✅ Open knowledge – Expands educational opportunities.
✅ Sustainability – Supports health, education, and the environment.
✅ Economic growth – Fuels entrepreneurship and job creation.
✅ Transparency – Ensures accountability through open collaboration.

Funding from Norad plays a crucial role in supporting DHIS2, ensuring it remains free, open-source, and accessible to governments and organizations worldwide. This support helps expand health data systems, improve disease surveillance, and strengthen healthcare infrastructure, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
