The first thing you need to do if you're planning to give a presentation or write a technical article is to pick a topic. It might seem like a tough task β€” what's left to talk about when everything's been discussed online? How do you turn your work experiences into something worth reading or presenting? Who would even find it interesting? That's why we hosted the "In Search of a Topic" workshop. Our speaker was Svetlana Iurchenko, Sr Communications Specialist at JettyCloud. During the workshop, participants learned what to focus on when hunting for a topic and came up with potential ideas for talks and articles in real-time.

One of the workshop participants, Vasily, a Delivery Engineer, shared his impressions:

β€œI found the general principles of article preparation and the steps for choosing a relevant topic particularly appealing at the meeting. It was an engaging and interactive session. Understanding how to select a topic better was a significant achievement for me! Big thanks to Svetlana and everyone involved.”

Kirill, a Senior Software Engineer, also shared his thoughts:
"It was an interesting workshop, offering a fresh perspective on finding topics in what might seem mundane. It provided a valuable exercise in finding inspiration from daily articles, work, and news!"

Let's do some sports! Recently, a half marathon took place in the Dendrological Park of Tbilisi organized by the local running community, Georgian Master Runners. Among the 60 participants were some of our colleagues, including Olesya. She shared her impressions:

"I participated as part of my marathon training without setting specific time goals, running based on heart rate. For me, it felt more like a trail run than a typical race. I enjoyed the atmosphere β€” everyone was calm, many knew each other and chatted, and there was mutual support. The best result among us was achieved by Denis Rodikov; he secured 9th place overall."

Denis, an Engineering Manager, also shared his thoughts on the race:

"I've been skiing since childhood, so cross-country running is quite familiar to me. A couple of times a year, I participate in such competitions. I enjoyed the positive atmosphere, bright sun, soft terrain, and the fact that the mud had dried up by then πŸ™‚ I was feeling a bit under the weather myself, so I ran cautiously. I found a good company and ran to the finish line, sometimes guiding the way. Make sure to participate in competitions regardless of your level! Participation alone brings a lot of emotions and new experiences. A small piece of advice: bring dry change of clothes for after the finish 😊"

We're thrilled to encourage knowledge sharing within our teams! , our Performance Engineer, gave a presentation on using Argo Workflows in his team's work. Attendees got insights into real-life use cases and the advantages it brings. The talk was valuable for those contemplating migrating workflows or pipelines to k8s.

Mikhail also shared his thoughts on the meeting:
"I really enjoyed being a speaker. It's fantastic to have the chance to share real-life experiences and knowledge with colleagues!"

Many of our colleagues have a variety of hobbies β€” hiking, wine tasting, running, and much more. One such hobbies is cross-stitching. Our colleague Svetlana, a Senior Network Engineer, talks about it:

"I've been cross-stitching since I was a child, around ten years old, taught by my grandmother. When she was young, she lost her leg, so she could hardly leave the house and spent all her time doing handicrafts: knitting beautiful sweaters for the whole family, warm mittens, and embroidering pictures. We lived in a small Chukotka town where there were no specialized handicraft stores, so my dad would bring her embroidery floss from his vacation in St. Petersburg, and my grandmother would share it with me.

At first, I stitched according to ready-made patterns from magazines like Burda or Anna, but sometimes I tried to create my own patterns, drawing favorite pictures on graph paper and choosing thread colors by eye. Nowadays, there are plenty of convenient programs to turn a drawing or photograph into cross-stitch, such as PC Stitch, Cross Stitch Professional Platinum, and WinStitch.

I believe that it's very beneficial for everyone, especially in our profession, to do something with their hands that yields tangible results. It calms the nerves, distracts from sad thoughts, and even helps to delay Alzheimer's disease."

Extra day β€” extra reason to hang out together! On February 29th, we all gathered with our colleagues after work. We encouraged everyone to raid their closets and rock those outfits they hadn't worn all year. Kigurumis, fancy dresses, and costumes were the vibe for this meet-up! We also had drinks, hot dog bar, and the chance to belt out some tunes in karaoke πŸ™‚

Spring is right around the corner, so it's time for a renewal! This week, we got together for a swap event at our offices in Batumi and Tbilisi. It's a fantastic chance to give our belongings a new lease on life, helping the environment, clearing out closet space, and maybe snagging something new for ourselves. Colleagues and their families traded items and stumbled upon some real gems!

Last week, we had a meeting where experienced speakers shared their insights on writing articles, crafting presentations, and hosting local IT communities. Our colleague Iliya, Systems Engineer, shared what he learned from the meeting:

β€œFor me, this meeting was useful because I was able to express myself among like-minded people and once again get inspired for new endeavors and a desire to engage in public speaking. I didn't have this desire before.”

Pavel, Software Engineer, also shared his impression:
β€œThe meeting was informative, the part about the IT community was definitely interesting to me. All the other things were familiar to me, especially motivational ones. Probably because I have some experience in this πŸ™‚ ”

We love any opportunity to get together, and luckily there are plenty of people in our team who are eager to organize different activities. One of them is our colleague Sergey who organizes hiking trips and walks in Georgia for our team. Here's how this tradition took root:

"It's really quite simple β€” I have a passion for mountains, forests, and exploring new places. One day, I pitched the idea of a hiking trip to my colleagues, and they were all for it – and that's how this adventure began. The frequency of these outings depends on the weather or the season. If the weather's favorable, we could head out practically every weekend. On average, I'd say we manage to get together at least twice a month. I usually take charge of choosing the walk locations, always aiming for something off the beaten path. If there are plenty of such places, I suggest to the group to pick where we'll go next time. By the way, my absolute favorite part of the hike is when, at the end, you see the content faces of colleagues/friends and feel that satisfying fatigue in your legs. And, of course, the realization that everyone made it through in one piece :)"

Quizzes are a fun form of a shared activity popular among our employees. Our colleague Julia shared how they've established a tradition of getting together for quizzes with colleagues:

"After work on Fridays, we head to a bar, not to drink, but to play! We have two teams that regularly attend quizzes in Tbilisi. The first team goes to . The last time we proudly took second to last place and were awarded certificates for a welcoming drink at the Van Gogh restaurant. The second team has two captains β€” our colleague Stas Suslov and his wife. They are very smart and often win quizzes. Most often they go to ShakerQuiz."

The captain of the second team, Stas, also shared his opinion:
"There are several things I like about quizzes. The first one is the opportunity to take a break from the routine, as while you still need to think during the game, it's much more relaxed than at work :) The second thing I like is that you can apply the knowledge from hundreds of viewed memes and dozens of reels/Tiktoks at least somewhere. Playing a quiz with colleagues is another reason to find new common ground and unifying topics."

Our colleague Denis engages in paragliding in his free time. He shared why he started his journey into the sky:

"Flights were a conscious choice for me: ever since childhood, I was drawn to the sky and airplanes. I enrolled in and successfully graduated from an aviation university, planning to work in the field. But something went south :) In short, I left traditional aviation, but the dream persisted, demanding realization. So, I began searching for my own path to the sky. Paragliding turned out to be that path.

I remember almost all of my flights, and each one was memorable in its own way. There were many exciting flights, but the one that stands out the most is the tandem flight with my wife. It took place in Chegem (Kabardino-Balkaria) at the paragliding site. Since my wife isn't a pilot, we arranged for her to fly in tandem with a familiar instructor: she was a passenger, and the piloting was done by the instructor. Tandem flights are unforgettable experiences for both participants! We soared along cliffs and valleys, gaining and losing altitude together, flying side by side, playing tag with our paragliders. And, of course, we took photos, called each other, and laughed. When you can share a flight with a loved one β€” it doesn't get any better than that."

Our colleagues have a variety of cool hobbies, and one of them is hiking. .d shared his experience of climbing Mount Kazbek:

"So, I ended up tackling Kazbek via the 3b route. I was fortunate with the weather; just a bit of snowfall in the last 24 hours. For the descent, I followed the classic route, walking down from the saddle with a pair who took the usual route up. I made a slight orientation error and ended up ascending the upper part along the left side of the slope, next to the rocks. The upper part on the classic route is like pure bottle-ice. A big thanks to those who installed handrails there."

In December, we wrapped up the year with a special workshop. The workshop host, Oksana, shared her thoughts:

"The workshop format revolves around group activities (conducted online in our case), with a strong focus on practical aspects. Many of us have already developed the habit of setting goals and planning our lives, which is fantastic. However, it often feels insufficient. I appreciate the idea that planning and envisioning point B is futile if you're unsure about what led you to point A. Our goal was to create a space where we could slow down and, surrounded by like-minded individuals, take a moment to focus on what truly matters for you.

This session proved beneficial for those prone to rushing through, β€œforgetting”, and undervaluing the past year, missing out on recognizing their achievements. It resonated with those who value self-reflection and are open to navigating this journey with a supportive guide.

As a suggestion for those conducting their year-end reflections independently, I recommend the β€œYear Suitcase” exercise. The key is not to just mentally go through the motions but to genuinely sit down and write, as if you're compiling an actual list. Don't rush through it; invest the timeβ€”after all, this is your time. Imagine that you're β€œdeparting” from this year into the next and packing your suitcase:

Step 1: Complete the sentences:
I'm grateful to myself for this year because...
I express gratitude to those around me/next to me/who supported me...
I appreciate the opportunities that the year presented to me…

Step 2: Respond to the following questions:
What strengths and weaknesses have you discovered in yourself this year?
What have you learned in your interactions with others, in relationships?
What insights have you gained about your professional and personal growth?

Step 3: Create a list of what will NOT accompany you into the upcoming year because it's no longer necessary. For instance, things that feel constricting, irrelevant, or don't contribute joy or benefit. Pose questions to yourself and record your responses:
What fears, self-critical thoughts, behavioral patterns, and attitudes am I leaving behind this year?
What resentments, anger, envy, expectations, and relationships am I bidding farewell to from this year?
What goals, ideas, projects, and priorities am I consciously choosing not to carry into the next year?

Good luck!"

Spending some active time with colleagues is the recipe for a fantastic weekend! One of our employees, Emil, shared his thoughts on taking part in hiking trips organized by his co-worker:

"I'm in this chat where Sergey, one of our colleagues, organizes outings for the team. This time, we headed to Uplistsikhe and explored the old cave city with a guide. We walked through the forest to the ruins as the sun set, and then made our way back in the dark. We even ran into a dog that initially spooked us all, but turned out to be a sweetheart once we fed her πŸ™‚"

Some of our colleagues have started a new tradition β€” running together. One of the participants, Olesya, shared more details about it:

"Usually, we go for runs in the mornings. One of us posts in the chat that they are going for a run, specifies the location and time, and welcomes company :) Everyone joins in when possible. Our favorite running spots right now are Vake Park, the stadium across from it, and Lisi Lake.

I enjoy running with colleagues for several reasons. Firstly, it's nice to suffer together in the mornings rather than alone :) Secondly, it's an extra motivation to get up for a run. For instance, you can ask someone to wake you up if you're not sure you'll get up at 8 am on a Saturday. You can chat about anything or listen to colleagues discussing something. This distracts from the repetitiveness of running and makes the process engaging.

I also like the feeling that the whole day is ahead of me, and I've already done something good and beneficial for myself in the morning. And the best part is that after the run, we treat ourselves to a shared breakfast."

On September 27, we held the QA Party – the first paid offline event by JettyCloud in Georgia πŸŽ‰ It was an event for testing professionals, featuring presentations, networking, and gifts from our partners. We aimed to bring together the IT community in one place, share valuable knowledge, and introduce people to the culture of JettyCloud.

Over 90 people participated in the QA Party, with 80% of the attendees being experienced professionals with 5+ years of experience. Everyone who responded to the survey expressed their desire to attend our events in the future. For us, this is the main indicator that we managed to create a truly interesting and valuable evening!

We thank everyone who participated in the preparation and ex*****on of the event, as well as our partners and speakers. Keep it up πŸ™Œ

At JettyCloud, we strongly believe that communication and a friendly atmosphere are just as important as the work itself. We have many traditions that help us maintain this fantastic atmosphere, and one of them is Birthday Parties πŸ₯³
Every season, we throw a party for people born in these three months. This time, we organized a themed party - a wine casino! Each of us could not only try a new type of wine but also try our luck at an impromptu gaming table. The atmosphere was incredible, and we are sure that such moments bring our large team even closer together!

We are always ready to support knowledge exchange: our colleague Artem spoke at the JavaScript Meetup last month. He shared his insights:

"My presentation focused on utilizing Rust code within the NodeJS runtime. I discussed various approaches, our own implementations, and the challenges we faced along the way. I participated in this meetup because I believe it's crucial and fascinating to exchange knowledge within the IT community. Moreover, being able to present and share ideas with others is becoming increasingly important in our modern society. Thanks to my talk, my colleagues discovered how to effectively combine NodeJS with other programming languages, particularly Rust, in a single project."
