Annabel came to me at the very beginning of a new venture, and with a very tight turnaround(!) 😊 She had a great idea for her new venture, and a sense of exactly how she wanted it to feel. We developed the branding together from scratch: working through ideas, refining the direction, until everything clicked into place and she was ready to launch.

The result is a fresh, characterful identity for Annabel's AΓ§aΓ & Ice Cream – now up and running at Poolbridge Farm near York.

Loved every bit of this one. Hope you have a brilliantly successful summer Annabel! Pool Bridge Farm

Last night I met my mentee in person for the first time! We met through , and it was great getting to know her better. Afterwards I went to another excellent talk on the history of witchcraft & women by Professor Diane Purkiss.

Not your average Tuesday, but I think it's so important to do things that have nothing to do with work. Reading widely, going to talks or exhibitions – following curiosity wherever it leads. Witchcraft or women's history, might not have anything directly to do with my work, but I feel like it feeds my creativity!

Who else loves a niche interest?! πŸ˜‚

Just to be clear – I love all of the signage in this post for various different reasons, but wherever I go I see bad branding and always feel like I want to sort it out immediately! πŸ˜‚

Because branding is the very first thing people see of your business. Before they read your reviews, or even decide if you're worth their time. That first impression is doing so much work for your pricing, your credibility and what people you attract.

Why would you settle for less than the best possible first impression?!

Last night I was once again in Harrogate with an incredible room full of women building things.

When I very first started networking, it used to terrify me. I would wonder if I belong there, what if nobody talked to me or I didn't know what to say... but then after a while you realise that everyone in that room feels exactly the same. And when you stop performing and just have a real conversation, that's when great connections happen!

It was great meeting you

Are you a networking lover or hater?!

It's this weekend –
16th + 17th May

Last night I went to a little preview at
Alison Hardcastle's studio and loved all of the colourful tactile screen prints. If you're in the area I can highly recommend a visit! It's Venue 13 in Nunburnholme, 10am - 5pm

Lots of clients come to me, having started their branding the DIY way, maybe in Canva or with a logo that a friend designed as a favour.

But then there's a stage in every business where this starts working against you. Your brand looks a bit inconsistent and you're spending hours on design instead of your actual work. And something about it still doesn't feel quite right, even when you've tweaked it a hundred times.

That's when you know you're ready for branding that actually feels like you, works hard for you and doesn't need redoing every time you level up. That's where I can help!

I have finally framed some of my most recent needlepoints and they can be seen at The Blacksmith's Shop Gallery in Bishop Wilton. Keep an eye out for open weekends or you can visit by appointment.

When I started my design career as an apprentice in Switzerland I had no grand plan, I just knew it was what I wanted to do and I was willing to learn and figure it out as I went.

Talking to potential mentees at recently about their careers made me stop and think about all of it. The risks. The chances. The moments where I genuinely didn't know if it was going to work out.

It's easy to look back and join the dots neatly. In the middle of it, it never feels that clean.
But if you're a creative, especially a woman, trying to figure out your next step, the risks are usually worth it. As long as it feels right – keep going!

The most distinctive brands aren't just well-designed – they're legible. You can feel what they stand for, who they're for, what they believe in. And that feeling comes through visually, before a single word is read.

That's not an accident. It's intentional art direction. Colour choices that carry meaning. Typography that has a point of view. Imagery that reinforces a world, not just a product.

Design-led founders understand that story and strategy aren't separate from aesthetics – they're expressed through them.

What does your visual identity say about what you stand for?
